I am getting a bow for my 11 year old daughter who has never shot a bow before. Although her draw length seems to measure 23-24 inches, she is not very strong yet in the upper body, so I want to be sure and get a bow she can handle. It is hard to find a bow with low pull weight and longer draw lenght. My research has turned up a prospect that seems to fit the bill. The Browning Micro Midas 2 with a 22-27 inch draw length, and a 15-30 lb draw weight. Any other ideas, and where can you buy bows most reasonably?
Thanks,
David

Checkout the Mathews genesis, it is sold in Cabelas and BassPro to I think. It is 10-20lbs. and draws all the way out to 30", there is no let-off or draw stop. So everybody can shoot it. I bought one for my 7yr old daughter, and we can all shoot it, older daughter, wife and me. You could also check Bowtech and Parker, I think they both have a program to allow a bow to grow with your child. They will upgrade the limb to a heavier weight for a small fee. Just some thoughts.

tx, here's what I would recommend... go to ebay... sporting goods... archery... bows... then type in mathews genesis under search. You can buy them from $100-$150 on ebay from what I have seen. That bow has very low poundage, which increases when you draw it back. It has no set draw length, basically however far you need to pull it back to hit your anchor point. It's advertised as a bow the whole family can shoot.
Otherwise you might want to take her to a pro shop and have her shoot a few different set ups there. Make sure you know what she is capable of before spending your cash.

TX, funny you bring this up. I was in the same exact position with my 11yr old son this summer. He's been shooting various bows since he was 3. Started with one those plastic suction cup jobbers. He just out grew his latest a Golden Eagle brave bow. So I went on a search myself. I considered several, like yourself. He also has a 23-24" draw, and been pulling lighter lb's. His brave maxed at 22lbs. I ended up ordering just today for Christmas a Champion Badger. It has a 22-29" draw by changing modules, and in either 35lb or 45lb limbs max. 65 or 80% let-off, camo or pretty colors! Its a 2003 model, Champion just put out their new 03' designs. The proshop called the company, and they were all out of 02'models. I also purchased 3 modules to take him up to a 25" draw. Their website still shows the 02 lines, but the badger is pretty much the same. The Buck bow line which is cheaper has been dropped, unfortunately. I bought a new Champion myself this spring, but I didn't care what brand I got for my boy, as long as it was going to work for him now, and several yrs down the road. www.Championbow.com if interested, good luck.

My 6 yr old nephew has the Micro Midas set at 25 lbs and is shooting like a champ. He actually is shooting in a league with my bro-in-law. I like that set up. The genesis is a really nice concept and you might want to consider the Bowtech rascal. It looks like a great bow to last a while. It might be pricey, though.

Thanks guys. I did more research on the Mathews Genesis and decided to go with that. There is no question that it will work and don't have to worry about draw length. Thwack: the outlaw only goes up to a draw length of 22" (not enough since my daughter is already 23-24). Thanks anyway.
