What have you you learned about bowhunting in 2006?

I learned you greatly improve your chances of killing a deer when you remember to take your quiver with the arrows in it.

I also learned not to tie a slip knot in your line used to hoist up your bow and pack.
When lowering, if you're not careful, you can untie your pack and send your equipment into a free fall, and it may be in low light.
I lost my camera, binoculars, four carbon arrows and had a heck of a mess to clean out of my pack, since my coffee thermos and a bottle of "active scrape" were also broken inside of my pack.
Good luck in 2007!

Damn KP, that had to suck. Coffee and active scrape. I think I'd have a hard time drinking coffee for a while after getting a whiff of that.
I learned not to give up so early, to sit in my stand a little longer, and be more patient.
I also learned to stand in my stand more and sit less.
And I learned to calm down a little more before I take a shot. Didn't think I'd ever get that one figured out.

Here is my opinion of the perfect hunting scenario “if” the venison is the first priority;
The deer would be pretty close, easily within the range that you have practiced in, and become very proficient. It would also be completely unaware of any danger, and would be presenting you with a broadside or slightly quartering away shooting angle, and the animal is completely still. There would be no obstacles between your weapon and the animal to adversely affect your shot, and the weapon of choice would be capable of killing the animal instantly. The temperature outside would be pretty cold. At least cold enough to reduce the deer’s core body temperature rapidly to 38 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, where it would be maintained for 4 to 10 days away from animals, insects and other pollutants. It would also be out of direct sunlight and not allowed to freeze at all during this period.
Seeing bugs on my deer ruins my anticipation of the recipes that I am looking forward to.

Road kill to them is a buffet line.
On a serious note I don't think you need to police the forum. Let people decide for themselves what's right or not.

As for myself I don't share any of those anti gun sentiments. I love to hunt, don't really care with what. Love to bow hunt until a big cloud of black powder clouds my vision.

Thanks to HCH, I learned how to hang climbing sticks and a hang on stand.
How to wrap and fletch my own arrows and what kind of camo not to buy.

nodog,
I'm not the forum police, and I don't think that I'm trying to be. Is that the definition for disagreeing?
And I think it is pretty obvious that I'm not trying real hard to "fit in" as you suggested earlier, but thanks for sharing that you used to try to. How exactly did you try to do that? Did you laugh at stupid jokes, or agree with things that you didn't really agree with? You see I don't do that so I'd like to know more about your mindset when you were doing that.
Just so you know - you don't know how I feel, but I guess that doesn't really matter does it?
I'm not trying to be confrontational, but I don't agree with your statements. I feel a little out of place calling you on it, mainly because I don't think you're being confrontational either, but they (your statements) seem odd to me.

Here is what you said, and only a short time ago. It contradicts what you're saying now. According to your most recent post, more over #3 the shoulder only "sometimes" gets hit with "both" weapons, but in the post above, you "always" get more meat from you bow kills, and you "never" get the shoulders from a deer you've shot from a gun.
It is evident that you have an enormous chip on your shoulder over this for whatever reason. I really don't care, but you need to lighten up a little. Again, I was simply stating that when I shoot a deer with a gun, I tear up more meat than I do with a bow.
But I'm done listening to you,not becauseI can't help but "pretend to know your intentions", but I don't care to have to try to figure out whether you're being honest, dishonest or just egsadurating.
I have no reason to "exaggerate" to you. I'm Not sure what "edsadurating" is.. By all means if I have done that "whatever it is".... I am sorry!
That compounded with the fact that you made an ignorant statement leads me and my intentions elsewhere... I have nothing to learn from you, so good day sir!

If you are always letting deer wast when hunting with a bow, here's a suggestion STOP hunting with a bow! I for one do not have that problem. So, KP are you saying that you tear up less meat with a gun vs a bow? If so, I am interested ion how "you" are able to do this.
BTW, get the chip off of your shoulder. Life comes easier that way!
