Still bummed,
Mike

I did that, and I think he had a couple of bad decisions. He asked I answered. Where lies the problem Jeff. Yes I have missed, yes I have wounded animals only to find them after a long painful death. I felt assamed and embaressed and I didnt come on here and ask "what do you all think?" and expect every one to say oh it will be ok. MichalHunsucker ya screwed up. Ya missed and the buck should be ok. Learn fom you mistakes and consider you self lucky you didnt shove that arrow into him 5" lower. I dont think you would have ever recovered him. Im done!

The deer was quartering to which is fine.

It is?

Not saying that I never did it when I first started out, but then I learned.

I don't see a problem with the shot angle. I've taken plenty of quartering to shots without a problem. Now taking a shot when you are leaning around a tree that's in the way is a whole different issue.

yes

Learned what?IMHO it's a shot that is deadly especially at close range.......within 20 yards.

It is fine. Everyone always wants to focus on the angle but shot placement far outweighs that. This clip is a perfect example. Had that arrow been tucked right behind the shoulder/front legwe would not even be having this conversation we would be looking at a pic of the buck on the ground. Certain quartering towards angles are too extreme but so are certain quartering away angles(every circumstance is different). Well I think the buck will be ok but good luck in your search anyway.

IMHO, it is a poor shot selection and not that deadly. There isthe problem with the little thing called the shoulder.

I should have kept my mouth shut. This is a topic for a whole new thread.

Whenever Ihave taken a quartering to shot I normally blow right through the shoulder and it's a very short tracking job....;)

To each his own I guess.
