So you're telling me that you have total confidence that your arrow will pass through the shoulder on a quartering to shot? Not the shoulder blade, the shoulder.

My point is that its a low % shot. I think I'll either wait for a better shot or let him walk. I think I owe it to the animal.

Very cool video, and I agree with the flesh wound theory. Looks like that buck already a wound of somekind, whether from fighting or othercause, but he is well-scarred now! And much smarter!

That's right. Most of the shots I take are within 20 yards and if a quartering to shot is presented I take it. If my aarow enters the shoulder I have had no problems with penetration.

Is it really that hard to believe?

Whenever Ihave taken a quartering to shot I normally blow right through the shoulder and it's a very short tracking job....;)
What are some things that could possible deflect an arrow or effect penetration? Heavy bone possible?

IMPO, the word that I don't really care for in your post is "normally". Does that mean 9 out of 10, 8 out of10, 7 out of 10. What would the number need to be before even considering not taking a quartering to shot?Nine seems enough to me personally.

Also, why does the Bowhunters Education Foundation not recommend taking a quartering to shot?Or does their opinion simply not apply to us?

I agree HuntingGus. I have killed some deer quartering towards and never had any problems. Now that being said I won't take one at a real extreme angle, but if I can get an arrow into the chest cavity I'm not overly concerned with how it gets there(within reason).

The word "normally"was in reference to when I hit the shoulder. I try to slip it right behind the shoulder.

Not sure. In my experience it is a deadly shot.

Worked out "fine"?

In my eyes and I'm sure a lot of others it would be considered unethical.

It all depends on the angle and the shooter!! What someone in a classroom "recommends" is just that a recommendation. It certainly does not apply to every possible angle and shot oppurtunity you might encounter in the woods and doesn't take into consideration individual shooter capabilities.
