The part of the "bad shot" that cost him the deer was not the angle it was the shot placement. The arrow was never near anything vital. There was room there to hit the vitals he just missed.

I'd agree on the angle portion. and there is some overlap.What one person might say is a slightly quartering to category, I may still place in a broadside category. I don't believe there is only one 90 degree broadside category. But when someone says they need to blow through heavy bone to connect on a double lung or heart, then I believe there is a problem even if some kind of wild personal predetermined percentage are met. The other problem I have is when the margin of error open is small on the quartering to shot. I believe you are implying this with the word "shooter" in the above quote. I really don't care how qualified an idividual is on a 3-d target.Accuracy is not the only variable in the equation.

I might agree with some of this. But to tell you the truth, the more experience I have in achery and bowhunting, the more I see the "basics" as being important, truthfuland respectable. I never try to applypersonal "elitism" to any of it. Maybe it's just me, and I'm at fault.

You are not "at fault" at all and there is nothing wrong with your approach to how you choose to shoot deer. Education programs are great and knowing the "basics" is good too, but there is no way they can fully prepare you for all of the things you can encounter in the deer woods. We have had this discussion in the past Bob-Co and I respect your opinion on it and don't feel it needs to be revisited in this thread. All I can say for sure is that in the clip there was plenty of room to hit the vitals even atthe quartering towards angle, he just missed.

Always follow up but it looks like a real high hit I doub't you will find much more than hair , it always takes awhile for the blood to hit and they cover ground quick

Well maybe not "plenty" but there was some room there. I don't really love that particularangle either(but I can't see the shooter just the arrow)my only point was the shot placementis way off, even ifthat deer is broadside andhe hits it that far off in that spot you get the same result.
