He has posted on here and is yet to define the angle. Watch it in slow mo the arrow goes from left to right. The deer is already 1/4 to the camera man. Which puts the shooter at even more of an angle.

Teejay:

Ya know....I did go back and look at it, again. Hey....between you and me.....Common ground. "I" wouldn't have taken that shot, either.....IF....IF it is "as depicted" as it is on the video (the angle). Now I'm not faulting him for taking the shot, either. He knows his abilities far better than I do. Maybe he just made a poor attempt at a shot he has much confidence in?

I'm willing to believe that. I also believe if you're gonna take that shot (and you're trying to make it in the "film your own hunts for TV world".....then don't be afraid to show us ....WHATEVER THE OUTCOME.

Kudos.

Jeff

I've heard people tell people not to take the straight down shot. I didn't. I don't condone it. But....when he came even closer than 4 yds......I had to give in that I probably wasn't going to get a shot at him, THAT DAY.
I don't understand, did you take the shot?

iowabob85 - Good, ---no great post. ;)And hopefully some people will reada takeyourtruthful experience for what it is worth, which to me is a lot.

I have went back and watched the video over and over in slo-mo. If the aarow is 6-7 inches lower the deer is dead.

He simply missed high. The quartering to angle was more than slight but the left to right would have been good.

I understand the "risk" involved with this shot and if you are not OK with taking it fine. IMO he took and good shot but executed poorly.

I could be wrong, but if a deer is quartering to you, wouldn't it be safe to say that if the deer continues, it will end up presenting a broad side or quartering away shot opportunity?
Its possible that he might have but the direction he was heading would have been right down wind of me and he might have caught my wind. I am confident in my shooting enough to take that shot, something just went terribly wrong and the shot was off...way off. But I cant change the past

Bobco....

Nope. I called Rob/PA that night and told him of my encounter (this was the deer I "nicked" on 9/12......and this was the first time I'd seen him since then.....on 11/25). I told Rob I thought about that shot for a millisecond....but didn't draw. I thought he deserved better than I might would give him from that angle.

SB, that's what I thought, but wasn't sure. Great self control!;)

I am confident in my shooting enough to take that shot,
Thats great, but didn't you ask us if we thought the deer would live? Maybe clip an artery. You saw the same film as we did, and you were there. Are you sure you are as confident in deer anatomy as you are in your shooting ability and shot selction?

I appreciate that, Bob...I really do. It was the first time I'd seen this deer in over 2 months....and he's simply prehistoric looking compared to the other deer in my woods. I was a little taken aback (OK...a LOT).

He came in without me getting a chance to turn around. When I got around.....he was at 4 yds. He looked like a bull that's loose in a ring after he throws a would-be rider off.

I was in awe at the difference in a MATURE whitetail buck and the "deer" I'd been seeing. That encounter was the highlight of my season.

I am. I didnt ask if he would live. I was almost 100% sure that he would be fine. However, i did ask if there was any freak possibility that i could have clipped something because i thought that i heard him crash. Im not sure what i heard but it wasnt him crashing...
