RE: Made a bad shot on a good buck tonight (with video)
ORIGINAL: moose1915 ORIGINAL: SBGobblers Heck.....the author's shot was bad, yeah....but it he hit the deer (flesh wound, thank God). Hell...it would have been an even WORSE shot to COMPLETELY miss (figuratively). Jeff i'd take a clean miss over ANY less than recoverable shot anyday. did i misunderstand what your trying to say? moose |

Cool footage. It sparked some debate that's for sure. Not a shot I would have taken from what I could tell, but that doesn't matter much.

ORIGINAL: SBGobblers Teejay.....woud you guys edit this stuff out of your hardcore hunting adventures footage? I'm just asking. Jeff Jeff I would not have taken that shot! I think it was a VERY low percentage shot. Yes we would air a clean miss. |

It's good to see that HNI hasn't changed a bit! Keep up the good humor fellas.

you may have missed but that wasnt a terrible angle to be shooting. you definately could have hit a lung because ive seen you make a harder shot than that. you just made a bad shot and that happens to everyone. im sure you will get another opportunity this year, just make sure I am filming this time.

RE: Made a bad shot on a good buck tonight (with video)
The first six words on the title of the post says it all. No matter where he hit the deer and that is just my opinion. I made a quartering to shot on a very nice buck and 18 hours later I found him took him to the taxidermist and now he is on my wall. There is no way that I will ever do that again because of the time and suffering that deer went thru while trying to die. Quartering to shots are a awful idea and that is all there is to it. And if you can't see the angle at which this arrow came from I will tell you that it appears to me that the deer was quartering to at a very bad angle. I know it is just my opinion but we have to as bowhunters show are quarry the same respect that we want to be shown.

If you're aiming to hit a barn with your arrow and your arrow nicks the barn......at least you hit the barn.
If you're aiming at a barn and completely miss the barn.....you've made a worse shot than your first one. I said "figuratively" in my original post. Jeff I would not have taken that shot! I think it was a VERY low percentage shot. Yes we would air a clean miss. Jeff |

I could be wrong, but if a deer is quartering to you, wouldn't it be safe to say that if the deer continues, it will end up presenting a broad side or quartering away shot opportunity?

RE: Made a bad shot on a good buck tonight (with video)
Killer that thinking works great in theory.....but I had the best buck in my woods at 4 yds.....and waited to take the shot because he was too far directly beneath me. The next view I got of him was through the slats of my Summit platform. he was directly beneath me. At this point.....he walked DIRECTLY away from me (what else could he do from that position).
I've heard people tell people not to take the straight down shot. I didn't. I don't condone it. But....when he came even closer than 4 yds......I had to give in that I probably wasn't going to get a shot at him, THAT DAY. I'm not so sure the shot that was presented to the author was that bad of an angle. I wasn;t there. jeff |
