RE: Made a bad shot on a good buck tonight (with video)

In my opinion this deer was at a very poor shot angle. If the rib cage had been hit, probably a kill, maybe a recovery. I shot one once at that angle, but the deer was at about 5 yards, and I had a clear look at the front end. Stuck him in the base of the neck, no problem, down in 50 yards. I hit one broadside once, high and behind the rib cage, best blood trail of my life, 75 yards. Last year shot 2 deer in the shoulder, which I don't recommend, but had clean kills on both. I use bear razorheads on all these kills.

I totally agree. And sometimes I even ask that question before forming an opinion on a thread (but never if the subject is different shot selection based on antler size). -However, I'll usually get blasted for asking. :(Luckily I am not in that boat (hunting because I have to eat) and I feel fortunate not to have that type of pressure lurking over me.
Me too Bob;) My point is we can say what we are going to do, but we really do not know until we are face with it. We can say "I would not have shot", but until it is our butt in the tree, I do not believe meor anyone else can make a blanket statement on what we would have done.

In football we call it "Arm Chair QB"
Here on HNI we will call it "Keyboard Shot Selection";)

ARGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!

Theres the arrow and impact in red, with the line of the path and impact of red dot

The desired path was 6-7" below the actual impact spot, in the blue, which would have resulted in a 50 yard blood trail and very dead deer.

GOOD SHOT SELECTION and if you can't see that, stop bowhunting because with a compound, this shot means dead deer 99 out of 100 times I'd bet.

that blue line would have taken out this side lung, offside lung too. Note in the video this deer didn't even jump the string - just shot a bit high is all. Also,

Buster, your blue dot is about 1" from a stick. Sure, that would be a clean kill, but the kill zone was obstructed.

Or maybe being in a pretty close position or experience to being what was described or videoed once or numerous times will help in predicting what you will do if the opportunity presents itself again. But like you have said, the others personal circumstances could have been different then your own. Good point.:)

This is my opinion......

But if you've EVER sent an arrow and regretted it.........

You "might" not KNOW what you'd do in EVERY given situation.

I've sent one like that.

I think for some guys they have to get their fingers smashed before they learn. I have learned the hardway many times in life Bob, LOL

Why I though at one time I could shoot a deer moving[:@] I thought I was super hunter in my 20's. I have been humbled and nocked of my horse a few times.

We all learn at differnet speeds I guess;)
