Default Bum Shoulder

I've had a shoulder that gives me problems from time to time . . .rotator . .spurs . .or whatever. Having just started shooting a bow and trying to sight it in has given me some minor problems with the shoulder again.
What I was wondering is if some of you folk have similar problems and if form has anything to do with it.
I'm a right handed shooter but the problems with my left shoulder. I've already dropped the draw weight down from 70 to 60lbs.

Have you considered getting a crossbow permit? If you dont want to shoot a cross bow then you might try shooting even less poundage. Have you had surgery? You might have to do some should workouts or something. My friend had shoulder surgery and he had to do a lot of rehab to get his shoulder back to normal...

The best advice I can give you from my experience is stretch alot. Stretch every chance you get all day long. Even with rotator problems this will help eliminate alot of problems when you have them and prevent them from happening in the future. I use to injure my shoulders alot and started stretching more and don't have odd ball muscle and joint problems like I use to. You got to figure you have at least three times a day where you have5 minutes or so to stretch. Trust me it helps.

You really should get it checked out. I had some problems with mine for years on and off and had to get some anti inflamatory meds from time to time. Doc said i had a minor injory to the rotator cuff. I was able to shoot my bow but other things would bother it. In April 2005 i fell thru an attic and hurt it bad this time. got an mri and was told i had a very large tear in the rotator that had to be fixed. surgery was terrable and rehab was no fun but my shoulder is 100% now and feels better now than my other one. hope yours is nothing serious.

Thanks folks, I'll try the stretching and see how it goes. It's an old injury that I deal with from time to time . . .going to the doctor is a last resort for me[&:] . . . .scared they might find something wrong.

right on the money. If you can get the permit for a crossbow that'd be a cool route to go, (especially if you get bowtech's new stryker, hahahaha, I want that) but if you want to stay with the reg. bow it's fine to drop it as low as 50 lbs if you want. Hell you could drop it to 45 lbs and just keep your shots within 25 yds or so. It's up to you. As far as alleviating the problem, I have no idea, just some ideas for you. Good luck dude!

I have fairly severe Shoulder tendonitus - and someday I will have to have surgery to correct the problem - both shoulders - but the left one is worst too. When I practice with bow - I now practice less often - but with more purpose. I may shoot 3 times a week still - but only 12 or 18 shots per session. I take every practice shot like its on a deer. When I hunt, I take 1000mg ibufrofen when I wake.

I've had seasons when my arm hung like dead meat - it sucks! If your doctor like mine says there is no "quick fix" - Don't over-do the practice - if you hurt the shoulder more - you'll be more apt to develop bad habits and/or not be physically able to pull off a shot when it counts.

I had the same problem when i ripped mine in football I had surgery for it thought, but the only thing that i can say is shot it for a litle bit, then ice it for a little. This will help trust me, i could not even pull my bow back if i did not do this.
