Last summer I sold my old reflex bow because of money shortage and havent used it much. Well now that deer season is here and after reading these forums I have got the itch to start back deer hunting with a bow after gun season goes out. I have ran across a Fred Bear Heart xt bow, with quiver, and 12 carbon arrows for 100 dollars. This bow belongs to a older friend of mine who has only shot it a couple times and has quit hunting. I can tell by looking at the strings and cams that this bow has been shot very little...the paint has not even been worn off the cams or the string slide. Can anyone tell me if this is a fair price, a steal, and approximately how old this bow may be...
Thanks for any information.

If the bow is in good working condition and fits you and the arrows are properly sized and you're happy with it, I personally think it's a great deal. I have no idea how old the bow might be but I hunted with a Martin combound bow for 23 years and it killed the last one just as dead in 2003 as it did the first one in 1980.

personally i don't think there's anything wrong with Bear bows. when i was younger i always wanted the newest most expensive bow on the market, but like your situation, i sold the bow i had at the time(hoyt proforce fastflite) because of financial problems. a couple of years later i wanted to get back in the woods but couldnt afford the price of the newer more advanced bows. i bought a used Alpine for $150 and killed many a deer with it in the 6 or 7 years to follow. last year i decided to buy a new bow but refused to pay the ridiculous prices of the top name brands so i went to wally world and bought the cheap Bear bow they have and killed 3 last season and 1 so far this season. Now, in defense of the higher priced bows, i'm sure the are built better and probably shoot a little better but in my opinion , you can take a cheaper bow, buy some decent sights and arrow rest, get it tuned up and do just fine.......anywho.........don't worry too much about the name on the limbs, you will kill deer with it just the same.
