has anyone every got anything good stalking?

I shot a nice buck last year doing that but the coditions have to be right. Windy, wet ground, and you have to stay focused on what you are doing. Even more focused than when you sit in a stand. The area of view changes with every foot step. It's had to do but can be done and it is a good way to scout at the same time.

I actually stalked to 8 yards on Saturday 11-11-06 of this deer bedded with doe. I was at 20 yards but was into the open, so I pressed my luck and went in for the kill. At 8 yards, an opening appeared through the tall grasses. Tried to wait for a better shot, but the doe spotted me and it was all or nothing. He fell no more than 30 yards from the shot!

I shot my biggest deer ever while stalking. I could have shot a really nice 4x4 this year as well while I was stalking in the rain. The problem was I had the ML for the special anterless season. If I would have had the bow it would have been an easy 30 yard shot. I just sat there while he was feeding until the other two guys in my hunting party walked through.

I could have. One morning I was "stalking" in with my climber on my back, sort of still hunting down the trail when sure enough I heard a noise. I froze and a few moments later a spike stepped out into the clear. I shot him at 20 yards.
After he took off, I quietly put down my bow, shed my climber, picked the bow back up and took a single step when out from the other side of the path just 5 yards further walks this HUGE 10 pointer. He came out intent on the commotion the spike caused but I was still walking and caught his attention. Had I been standing still, I could have probably taken him.
He looked at me, snorted and ran down the path out of my life.

I tear up the hogs stalking, but for deer, not as much success. One of my best deer was stalked, but for the most part ive had most success with scouting and hunting signs. I like to stalk only when the conditions are right.

Just the other day I stalked a real nice buck on my belly for 2 hours. I thought he gave me the slip, but he bedded down.I got within 20 yds, but he was blocked by cover. I couldn't swing around or he would wind me and I didn't know where he went because he laid down while I was crawling.
After a long wait, I decided that he probably slipped away. I nearly tripped over him when I jumped him.

I haven't stalked a deer, although I may try it if the conditions are right (steady wind direction and wet ground) in late archery season. I have had some close calls hunting from behind a fallen tree (using it as a blind). I had a turkey get within 5 or 6 yards of me, but I couldn’t get a shot because of branches in the way. I also had a nice 6 point buck with a very big body, nice antler mass and spread get within 15 yards of me when I was on the ground behind a fallen tree. I was actually watching a doe whom I had heard walking about 30 yards off, when I see this big boy walking at half the distance (I never heard him; he moved like a ghost). I had to turn 180 degrees to get a shot. At the rate he was moving I thought the minimum risk was to turn and draw simultaneously. When I did, a leaf rustled under my foot and he turned to look at me when I was half drawn. He ran off, but I’ve seen him again since then and I think I know where he beds. I may stalk hunt him there, if the conditions are right.
Before I do this, I’d like to find out if anyone knows if deer will move their beds a significant distance if they’re spooked out of their beds by a stalk hunter?

Whitetail..Ive had years of success with rifle and shotgun..fairly good success with bow...no monster bucks but racks and several doe...Its an art that requires practice and not just during deer season.
