My best advise would be to hook up with someone that knows how to shoot and let them coach you. If you've got a local club start going to their shoots.

I didn't completely read every post but I'll chime in. Not knowing anything about you except that you are a novice I have to ask about the bow's draw length. 31"? Are you really that tall and lanky? How did you determine the draw length you should shoot? Please measure your wingspan and divide by 2.5. This should help you determine if you're close. If you are of average dimentiones you don't need a 31" draw till your wingspan measures around 77-78 inches or 6'5", which often correlates to your height (but not always).

Nothing will throw off accuracy quicker than too long a draw. It plays havoc with trying to develop any kind of consistent form and/or anchor points.

Couple that with maybe too much peak weight and you'll never achieve any kind of consistency.

First let me say thanks to everyone who replied. I appreciate it very much.

Ok I am 6'6'' about 310lbs. My draw length is actually 31.6 so I got 31" and added a string loop. Was told shorter drawis better than to long.I have no problem w/ the 70lbs.

I willtakeMonie's advice about gripping the bow. I was gripping it. Seems weird to just let it rest in your hand. I really enjoy shooting my bow and will continue to practice , practice, practice.

Arrows, I have Easton carbon excels I beleive 340 spines w/ 100 grains broadheads and field tips. They are 29.5" long. Thet sit on a QAD Hunter rest.
Was also wondering how much does the stabilizer really do, would a larger one help? I think mine is a 4'' x-flyte.

Thanks again

Well then theres a term for you....... perfectionist. I admire your skills. Because Im average at my shooting ability. I can and have robin hooded a few arrows. But unlike most of my friends I can not consitently drill a M & M at 20 yds. So putting an arrow into the kill zone at 35 yds for me is fine enough. Because I am confident with my shooting up to 35 yds. Beyond that is NO-SteveO-KanevO-Land..........O

BGfisher,

My "wingspan" is longer than my height. And I have a 31" draw length. Im 6'1" tall. And my anchor point in the fletching in the corner of my mouth with my thumb behind the bottom of my skull.

Well I think that not gripping the bow may have helped me alot. Yesterday after shooting I beleive I shot much tighter groups than any time before. I had trouble getting some of the arrows out the target b/c they were so close to each other. Hard to beleive that a little change like that would make a difference.

Brushhog,

Try a tutorial on gripping the bow over on www.Bowsite.com. It's under "features/practical_bowhunter/getagrip. A very good tutorial with pics and all. Hope it helps explain things for ya.

Steve,

I still think your draw may be too long. Take some pics at full draw and look at them. If you're close then the nock of your arrow should be approximately straight down from your eye while aiming.

I have a friend who was once state champion and then a good pro. He's 6'3" and shoots right at 30". And he isn't short armed either.

I'm not dictating. Just trying to help. Changes take time to adjust to.
