Ro, what part of Canada are you in? I'm guessing western, with your reference to mountains.
You won't have the success trying to pattern a moose like a whitetail. They may loiter in the same general area over a period of time, but following a predictable trail is out.
Since you just found out they are in your neck of the woods, there must not be too many of them. Is there, in fact, an open season? Perhaps the tracks were made by cattle on summer range? A bow with 70 lb pull will certainly take care of a moose, all other factors having been taken into account - such as your proficiency with a bow, proper tuning, appropriate broadheads, etc, etc.
It's good to see potential new moose hunters getting into the fray. Good luck with your education in this matter.

I believe cape breton has a very limited moose hunt involving a lottery. Its probably too late for this year but next year is an option. Shooting a moose without a tag will result in considerable grief for you.
Also consider how you would get the moose off the mountain if you shoot one. Sort of like dragging a volkswagen out of the bush.
