I hunt in Pennsylvania. I would say it definitely depends on where you live and how soonfrom opening day the deer come into rut. Here it's usually around mid Nov. I've tried some pre rut calling but never really had any success. I've had deer come in after calling, but they could have already been heading to that area anyways. Ihave no strong evidence that it works.

My hunting buddy accidently rattled in an 8pt last year for me. He hit his rattle bag a couple hundred yards from me, and the 8 pointer was heading right towards the sound..but crossed my path first. Happened in the middle of October in NE Indiana.

I have had little to no sucsess with early season calling. Last year I played around with everything that I could imagine. I did not get results to say the least. I oticed that every time I wnet out and didn't maka peep I would have a much larger chance of geting a deer within range

Sunday night just before sunset I heard a twig break in the distance. I pulled out my grunt tube (Tru-Talker)and gave a couple soft grunts. Within 2 minutes there was a spike coming right at me. He stopped andoffered me a 5 yard broadside shot. I passed on him...
