Thanks for the info Rob, didn't know it was wolfen. Still think it's rediculous to insult people because they don't hunt they way you do. I've killed a few nice bucks, I wonder how many I need before I can start telling people how to hunt?

BTW...I'm happy to hear about your "few nice bucks"....I'm sure you've plugged a "few nice does" as well? I have killed more does than bucks but that is just a result of the environment that I hunt in. There are way too many does than bucks.
Have a great bow season.

I have said this before and I will say it again.....Mostwho claim they are practicing QDM are actually practicing QAM (quality antler management)
If the herd in your area is healthy then they should have no problem with someone shooting a young (1.5 to 3.5yo)buck, yet even in this situation they will preach to you to "let them go so they can grow" Why???
Because all they want is bigger antlered deer so it's easier for them to kill one and say "look at what a great hunter I am"
Even though it's well known that male Whitetail deer can and do start to reproduce and mate as early as 1.5 years old and are very active reproducing as 2.5 to 3.5 years olds.
So having a bunch of 1.5 to 3.5 year old buckswith a good ratio to does residing in yourcounty is a very good sign that the herd in your area is "healthy" Even though there may not be as many 4.5and up year old bucks running around.
Yet even in this situation you will never hear a "so called" QDM proponent say "go on and kill them young bucks"instead they will berate you as a hunter for doing it and hide behind QDMas theirnoble cause. it's all B.S.
If you want to kill only large antlered deer, go right ahead, I suspect there are lots of hunters including myself who would love to have one in there sights, but for Pete's sake stop hiding behind QMD and come clean for what you really want............a better chance to kill a big antlered buck.
Next time try saying "let them go so more can grow and make it easier for me to kill a big antlered deer" That's what you really want and I bet you would get far less greif for saying ittoo.

A little food for thought about Whitetail deer:Breeding interval
White-tailed Deer breed once yearly.
Breeding season
Breeding occurs from Octoberto December, fawns are born in the spring.
Number of offspring
1 to 3; avg. 2
Gestation period
6.50 months (average)
Time to weaning
8 to 10 weeks
Age at sexual or reproductive maturity (female)
2 years (average)
Age at sexual or reproductive maturity (male)
2 years (average)

And??..........I would guess that the majority of guys on this board have over 200" of antlers on the ground over the last 2-3 years ( I do, and I shoot everything I see). I put a 9 iron in the hole from 137 two years ago.......does that make me a special golfer?
200 '' Cool
I think it was said best by GutShot we are just hunters.

I have no problem with hunters who are selective in what they shoot for whatever reason. I have a big problem with those who ASSume that they are a superior hunter because of what they kill and what they do not kill an try to conform everyone to there way of doing things.
Can anyone say.......EGO? Get over yourself guys and for Pete's sake.........HUNT the way you want and let everyone esle HUNT the way they want.

Somehow, the skull cap from that spike, justwon't invoke the same response now, will it?

GregH.....I wasn't trying to be insulting to you. I mean that. I just, like many, don't see others telling YOU and the original poster how to hunt (or that they can't).
I swear, Atlas....a guy I work with thinks that's why they put the spots on the broadhead targets......tosimulatefield conditions.
Jeff
That would be even better..................something to aim at

I think it should be: "Let 'em go and let 'm grow, so many more hunters have a shot at gettingthat mature "once in a lifetime" trophy, so their grandchildren can marvel at the mount years later, and think to themselves "how neat it must have been in the old days, when there was a forest, and deer in it, and it was legal to own a weapon and use it to hunt such a majestic animal."
I'll just show them some Monster Buck videos if youwon't provide the pic. They should get the picture just the same.
We all know that a story cannot be told unless it has a majestic monster buck at the end of it. Give me a break!

Neswflash. Hunting is more to most than just the head gear. It is stories, time spent with family and yes memories of the spike you killed by nailing thehorns to the woodshed!
