I think it should be: "Let 'em go and let 'm grow, so many more hunters have a shot at gettingthat mature "once in a lifetime" trophy, so their grandchildren can marvel at the mount years later, and think to themselves "how neat it must have been in the old days, when there was a forest, and deer in it, and it was legal to own a weapon and use it to hunt such a majestic animal."
LMAO! Can you please take pictures of your mounts so my grandchildrencan be educated on what Hunting is supposed to be?I'll just show them some Monster Buck videos if youwon't provide the pic. They should get the picture just the same.
We all know that a story cannot be told unless it has a majestic monster buck at the end of it. Give me a break!

Somehow, the skull cap from that spike, justwon't invoke the same response now, will it?
Neswflash. Hunting is more to most than just the head gear. It is stories, time spent with family and yes memories of the spike you killed by nailing thehorns to the woodshed!

As long as Grandpap is still breathing, the spike stories should suffice.
I was talking about after Pap is gone.

Also......here's a scenario for the QDM/trophy guys.....

"IF" it's really the mature bucks you're after..........would you take a 6-1/2 yr old with a 1/2 rack (broken off or deformed on one side)or a depleted rack(from aging process)OR....the 3-1/2 yr old with the perfect 170" set?

Both present a shot.....and you only have one tag.

QDM? or QAM? There is NO WRONG ANSWER! I don't care, either way. i just wanted to know.

Now my wife and two boys and myself are a church going family so I don't want anyone to take offense to this.

In the area of the country I live in hunting is another religion. It is taken very seriously and it brings families together. In todays world when someone else comes up to your door to preach about there religion some folks take offense. Otherwise good hearted, good natured people won't give that person the time of day to let them talk about it and may even shut the door in their face. Hunting is no different for many people around here. I will hunt my way you will hunt yours. I may tell you how I hunt and I am happy to hear how you hunt. The one thing you may not do is inject your believes into mine. They are my believes and if you share them then great if you don't then I will still respect you and your believes until you try to change mine. I know there are people here that have not answered the door because they didn't want to be bothered by someone with a pamphlet in their hand trying to convert. My thought is that a post like this will keep people from the experience of the "hunting brotherhood". Something all hunters are entilted to and we should never discourage that no matter what there hunting choices or hunting preferences are. Sharing stories and photos and building memories is the important part of hunting. If it is legal and ethical then I support it 100%

Well, bucks don't start to go downhill appreciably (rackwise) until they are about 8 years of age. Not too many on the planet that old.

I have many stories, many memories of hunting trips with Dad, Pap, Uncles, Brothers and cousins. Some years we had 15 hunters or morein camp and seldom did anyone take a buck in all those years. Somehow the stories and memories are precious to us all just the same. Never was about the horns really. Not that we didn't see deer. Was common to see 30 or more a day then. Too bad they were all does and fawns.
Last year was the first buck for me in over a decade. Somehow, I took considerable enjoyment from the time spent with family, while going without a tag filled.
Let me pose a question then....Is hunting more than a certain kill every year? An animal of any kind, no matter what?
Your attack seems a tad hypocritical.
What's funny is I care ZERO about what any hunter chooses to do.
I only post my point of view on a thread that was meant to be argumentative, by design.

Sorry you feel that I am attacking you. How am I being hypocritical?
To me Hunting is a very special time were memories are shared and new ones are made every year. The kill is a bonus.

Next time try saying "let them go so more can grow and make it easier for me to kill a big antlered deer" That's what you really want and I bet you would get far less greif for saying ittoo.
I think it should be: "Let 'em go and let 'm grow, so many more hunters have a shot at gettingthat mature "once in a lifetime" trophy, so their grandchildren can marvel at the mount years later, and think to themselves "how neat it must have been in the old days, when there was a forest, and deer in it, and it was legal to own a weapon and use it to hunt such a majestic animal."

livbucks,

Think about how let down the grandchildren willbe when they find out that "once in a lifetime" trophy buck was not so "once in a life time" after all, because his grandpappy and his buddies decided to skew the numbers in their favor and there were "once in a life time" trophy bucks behind every tree.

In one breath you want to shoot a "once in a life time"trophyyet in another you want everyone to pass on the smaller bucks so it will be easier to shoot a "once in a life time" trophy buck. News flash by making it easier to kill a big antlered buck they......... no longer are "once in a life time" trophys.

So to sum up this lengthy post:

Since there is a seperation of Church and State we should also have a seperation of Antler Score and a Hunters Ability. Or at least the perception that they are inter-twined.

Sounds good to me.
