Oh ... and for the record I hereby crown GregH as the ultimate authority on deer hunting .... along with the guy that started this thread .... and if they have another opening on their committee, I nominate myself as well. :^) ha ha ha
It's hard for some of these non-QDM believers to comprehend that no one really gives a crap what they shoot. I don't hunt with them and they don't hunt with me, no one but my closest friend does. What ever they shoot doesn't effect my hunting in the least. The only thing that us believers are trying to say, is that IF you want to increase your chances at shooting a mature buck, LET THEM GROW. It works. If not, shoot what you want. And here's a pre-congradulations! If you're happy, so am I.
As the UA of deer hunting, I'm going to lean towards what all the prominent Deer biologists are saying in all the publications, Shoot does and let the little ones grow. It really is best for the herd.
And that's respect.... the deer deserve it.

Yet you keep doing it over and over again. I didn't think it was possible, but you are even more long winded than Assgasman.
For the record, if you think my posts are long winded, never pursue a masters degree or any other form of higher learning, you wouldn't get past the application form.

Don, so this is where you been hiding out lately!! Shoot me a pm and let me know what happened on the IBS site. Its me Mike.

You should play nice and maybe sell some more copies of your book!! You tring to rekindle some of the old bowsite days?? That was a blast back then, I miss the old battles.
Just like maturing when it comes to hunting, I cant even get worked up enough anymore to argue with ole stickbow boys Jerry and Terry!! Heck Don I dont even want to argue broadheads anymore, I just keep killing bigger deer with them darned ole expandibles!! They work real well and I like em!

Thats because none of you QDM guys have YET to respond intelligently to my questions. No, you're too busy calling names andpatting each other on the back.

I guess if I was trying to sell my book on killing "trophy" deer, I would want to manipulate all hunters to ensure there was a higher number of "shooters" available.
Might even name it a maturation process.
Then wait for the orders.

It would suck to be a buck and only have a life span of 1 1/2 years. I will admit that a 1 1/2 year old buck is a beautiful animal when he walks by, but when I see a mature buck there is no comparison,a mature buck is just absolutely stunning and amazing to watch. I would love to see more bucks livepast 1 1/2 years. This is from a photographers point of view. From me as a hunter, same thing.

Ok ill chime in too,Trying to let um go and grow around here is tough, i do practice QDMto a certain extent but most people heredo not. The yooper lifestyle around here is if it got horns it usually gets blasted, around here 3 inch antlersor better that is. And there are alot of old timers that look at shooting does as a bad thing[>:]
I do pass a few small bucks each year, but then the deer wanders to the next 40 acres over and gets shot, so its a no win situation really. Some areas the let um grow let um grow will work, but unless you get most of the hunters in your area to agree on it the results wont show much.

Well now that I have the attention of so many new friends I will make my final post on the subject.
Obviously selling books or magazine articles is way down the list of my priorities as a deer hunter or I wouldnt even be on here voicing my opinion. I would just stick with the politically correct say-nothing-controversial approach of so many others who will listen to your BS with a smile and pat you on the back and then turn to their buddies in private and say that you are an idiot. My opinion doesnt change with my audience. Ask yourselves how many other writers or TV hunters are on here talking with you guys? Most know that it is a no-win situation for them and just avoid the problems. I am here because I consider myself one of you. No better or no worse. I do have opinions though and dont hide them.
We all mature as hunters just as we mature as people. Sure we are all deer hunters but just as a 20 year old and a 60 year old are both adultsthey arefar apart as far as maturity. Most 20 year olds male minds are driven by tagging as many girls as possible and getting drunk with the buddies while a 60 year old has matured past that and thinks about grandkids, fishing, golf, retirement etc. That doesnt make the 60 year old any better than the 20 year old, just more mature. He was also once a 20 year old with the same ideas. Hunters also go through a maturing process. Anyone who doubts it obviously hasnt taken the first step yet. I am not at the same stage as I was 10 years ago as a hunter or as a person. It actually goes way beyond trophy hunting or QDM. Fortunately, most hunters mature as do most people. Oh sure, there are still a few 60 year old men that think it is cool to go down to the bar and get drunk, act like a fool and try to hit on the women just asthere are a few experienced hunters that think that killing is what hunting is all about and how it is acheived or what is shot is irrelevant. They are the minority though. Everyone of you that is hammering me will be a different person and a different hunter in 10 years. So will I. We will learn, we will grow and we will get better at what we do. When this happens we will appreciate the whitetail deermore and not see it asa living target or a pile of meat for the freezer. God didnt make me any better than he made any of you. I was once a begining hunter whose goal was to simply kill deer. I remember what it was like. I had as much fun then as I do today but along the way I matured as a person and as a hunter. My hope for each of you is that you also grow and learn to appreciate the rest of the hunt. Dont be like the pathetic 60 year old man in the bar. Keep pushing yourself to new levels as a hunter. I know that most of you will someday know exactly what I am talking about even if you dont understand it today. I also realize that anyone reading this with more than 20 years of hunting experience can look back and know that they are also not the same hunter that they were when they started. Good luck to each of you this season and may you all witness something in the woods this fall that will stick with you forever and lead you to the next level.
