Congrats!!!! Nevermind those who are giving you a hard time. I've never taken an elk, but I remember my first whitetail. It was a young doe in southwest VA on the only doe day of the rifle season. I was shaking so bad that my first shot took out her frong kneecaps. She hit the ground, started kicking herself down the hill, and was squalling like a baby. I took two more quick shots, one that missed, and one that hit her in the neck which instantly stopped her. Then I broke down and balled like a baby myself.

As horrifying a story as that is, she WAS my first deer. And I had hunted for FIVE years before finally getting a shot at one. I was damn proud of that deer, and it's one I'll never forget.

Again...CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Hope the meat is good.

I've read his big game postand from what I grasp... it was limpingand wasinfected. If so, he did it a favor by killing itwhether heate the meat or chucked it. It probably wouldn't have lived long anyways.

I've seen hundred's of winter killed fawns in one year. Trust me I would rather see someone shota few since they are the least targeted age group during hunting season and the first to diefrom winter kill here. I know which deathis faster. I have no problem shooting doe fawns. Elk would be no different as winter is also tough on on a healthy calf... let alone a sick one.

My first kill was a doe fawn. I was pretty happy to shoot it as we didn't have the deer number we have now. We sure didn't have a " ZOO " to hunt where the deer trip over themselves as some have.

It wasn't the last one I've shoteither.

I am glad he is happy with his kill... that is what is important. He hunted for himself and apperciated what wasoffered. In the end it was pobably best for the calf anyways. Congrats to him!!
