I'm looking at buying a new bow. I like the BowTech Alligence and the Mathews Switchback EXT. What are you guys getting FPS from your hunting setups with these bows? I shoot a 400 grain arrow Thanks in advance.

with my 05 alliegence i am shooting a 416 grain arrow, with a draw wieght of 71 pounds i am getting right at 290ish. it alsocreates a crap-ton of kenetic energy. good luck cant go wrong with one of the new bowtech's.

Both bows are great bows but have very different characteristics. The XT is not going to be as fast as the Allegiance and if thats what your looking for it won't win that category. It is butter smooth, quiet, and dead in the hand though. Both are great bows though and you can't go wrong with either. I have owned both and like them both a lot.

Real world speeds are to varied to just give you an answer. Not only does the bow add to the factor, but more important are Draw length and DRAW LENGTH. All the rest of the factors you can change with lighter arrows, heavier arrows, different bows etc.... the one constant and deciding factor for all is DRAW LENGTH. With that said... real world speeds will be from 240ish to 290ish

obveasly draw length plays a huge part in the hole fps thing, But he is just looking for a real world estimaition. sometimes things arn't as complex as people on here make them.

and I think that's what I told him. However, I was just thinking all bows. Of the two you mentioned the BowTech is better in my opinion, but they'll give you about the same. If you're looking at an average hunting setup with a moderate arrow and draw length.. maybe 265-275.

My Allegiance at 70 lbs, 28.5 inch draw with a 381 grain ACC/including 100 grain head is 305 with a Tru peep and 299 with my Super peep....
Same arrow out of my buddies Switchback at 65 lbs was 253..

Nevermind ...it isn't worth it.
oh what the heck. He was asking for real world set up and speeds. At 5.4 grains per pound you're pushing the envelope. He's probably not in a postion to yank another bow off the rack if his explodes.

5.4 grains is not pushing any envelope on newer bows of the past 5-8 years.
I have 10's of thousands of shots through my 3D rigs and have never had any issues shooting 5gpp.
Would I shoot 5GPP (350grains)for my hunting setup? No. But I would be confident that my bow would handle it just fine if I chose to. I normally hunt between 375 and 400 grains.
My Allegiance shooting 5GPP formy 3d setup shoots320 FPS at 29 inches and 70 pounds.
With a 400 grain arrow it would clock in at about 303-304 FPS.
Good luck whatever you decide.

I was at 288 with my 05 SB. As it turned out, my bow was out of specs. The cam was overrotated about 1/8 in. and the ata was 1/8 in. too long. After making the proper adjustments, I picked up 3lbs on my draw weight. I don't know how much speed I picked up, but I was shooting 3 in higher at 30yds(shortening the gap between my 20 and 30 yd pins).
By the way, my total arrow weight is 385 grains.
