Well I went out last night and shot another 20-30 arrows and I was shooting 2" groups at 30 yards with no punching so "so far so good".

My son went through a spell where he thought he was SOOOO much better with a back-tension. He WAS a trigger puncher. Then....he'd get to where he was anticipating the release with the BT.
There's NO easy way to nail down/perfect a shot sequence. When he was having so much (seemingly) succcess with the BT....I ordered a thumb release. For one thing....I couldn't IMAGINE hunting with it full time (I hunted with it 2 or 3 times, last season).
I love my Scott (the first one I ever owned....and still use).

I had a bad bout with trigger punching when I was younger. I agree with most, it is mental. I used to do a drill befor I shot and after I shot for an evening. I would load an arrow and go through the regualr routine and draw back, putthe pin on the target and hold it on the bulls-eye with my finger on the trigger and not shoot. I would hold for a while and let up and not shoot. I would do this like 10 times to train my mind that I could hold it there and not shoot. It helped me get away from punching.

I think what Rick may be trying to say is if you are consciously triggering the shot, regardless of what type of release you are using, then you are likely to have TP issues.Youcan even make a back tension release fire by rotating your wrist etc.Of course these remarks come from a wrist strap release caliper puncher
so take them for what it's worth.

Manthis was not the thread to start to feel good about finally shootingbetter.[:'(]I understand that this may not be the cure all but all that I can say is that I'm shooting better than I've shot in the last 3-4 years and in the last 150 to 200 shots I haven't punched the trigger once so despite the fact that someday I may punch again I'm pumped about this new release.

Good deal for you.I'm not trying to rain on your parade, sorry it sounded that way. It's just a lot of folks(myself included) have been down that road.I hope the new release fixes things for good.
