Default Hometown Proshop blows

I went home this weekend to my parent's house and went to the proshop up there. This is the shop where I purchased my first bow, the Hoyt Ultrasport. I really don't like going there anymore b/c they are pricks[:'(].

The reason I went in there today was to buy a bow sling for my incoming Trykon. The shop I am buying the Trykon from only had the ones w/ the leather piece and I prefer the simple braided rope w/ no leather piece.

All that is beside the point. I asked one of the two owners ( they are brothers) if they carried gold tips. He said, "No, they are too inconsistent." I said, "Aren't they supposed to be one of the best arrows you can buy?" He said, "No, not by far."

I wonder why he is so against Gold Tips? I have read many good reviews on here by some of you guys. My new proshop's bow guy said that he uses Gold Tip and he highly recommends them. I was thinking about buying a dozen.

It's called, pushing a product so much you hand the proshopers a tube of Preparation H before you walk out the door. . .

Tell them their hemoorhoids seem to be flaring up when you hand them the tube.

so hes a prick because he doesnt like gold tip??

thats the problem with archery its full of personal oppinions and IMO i dont think a proshop owner should have a personal oppinion when selling a product... although recomendations are good!

Instead of coming on here and asking us why he is so against GoldTips you should've asked HIM. Then ask him what he recommends and why. You might have actually learned something.

Even if it were simply brand preference, that's no reason to be going around calling people 'pricks'.

No, they are not pricks b/c of their opinions. If that was the case then everyone would be, right?

Every time I go in there they act too busy to answer my questions. Even though I am the only one in the shop and the guy is just sitting down doing nothing. I think they act that way because I am younger.

The proshop I go to now is great! They answer every question I have. I even asked if I could sit in on some days to learn some new things and they said yes. I always get 1 on 1 attention when I go there. That is my ideal proshop.

I would agree with them. I hear some of the worst tolerances are from gold tip, mostly the cheaper arrows. I personally would never buy any, I don't care what I read on the internet. Especially from guys that probably never put a dozen on a spin tester or checked them for spine. However they do stand behind their product. If you send them back they will give you knew ones most of the time. And the more expensive models are much better because they sort them.

I have one shop near me that carries them exclusively, and another that refuses to carry them for the same reason your shop does. If they haven't had good luck with them why should they carry a product they don't endorse? The shop where I got my first bow was like this. He didn't even carry expensive drop aways because he thought they were a waste of money. If you asked for one he would politely tell you to go to Cabela's, they carry them.

I don't find this to be a flaw at all. At least I know the guy is not selling stuff just to make a buck off from me. If he sells it, it works! Unfortunately he passed away a few years ago.

Just my opinion any way.

Most pro shops only give good reviews to what they sell and some only sell what they personally believe in. Maybe these guys just don't like GT. That doesn't mean they are no good. Example: my local shop carries Hoyt, Mathews, PSE, Browning, Reflex and High Country.........hates Bowtech. 25 miles away another dealer carries Martin and Bowtech, and talks down Mathews. Anyway, I ended up buying the Bowtech, not because of either shop's opinion but because that is what I wanted.

There are a lot of reasons one guy may prefer, or in this case, NOT prefer a product. They range from genuine concerns and knowledge to just plaine stupidity. You should have ask him, "How so inconsistant". If they fall outside the guidelines of the product he should send them back. It they're inconsistant because he has extremely tough standards, well.... you can't fault him for that. AND NO, Gold Tips are not the best arrow out there by a long stretch. There are definitely better. SO, he may be a precision freek and demand perfection. That's too bad. He'd be better served to have a pitch of, "I prefer closer tolerances and find there are better values with better quality" or something like that. I remember my first trip to Lens. I was intent on buying a certain climber. He told me sure he had it. How often do you use it. How long to you stay on stand.....etc etc etc. He said he'd sell it to me but thought I would be better served to consider X vs Y. He gave me valid reasons and showed me physically what he was talking about(some quality control) The trade off was more money. SO, which do you want... this or that. How much do you want to spend. I ordered a new bow instead. I since havebought his second hand stand of the model he prefered for valid reasons. It just took me 3 years to do it.[8D] But I enjoyed the new bow.[8D]
