I would agree with them. I hear some of the worst tolerances are from gold tip, mostly the cheaper arrows. I personally would never buy any, I don't care what I read on the internet. Especially from guys that probably never put a dozen on a spin tester or checked them for spine. However they do stand behind their product. If you send them back they will give you knew ones most of the time. And the more expensive models are much better because they sort them.
I have one shop near me that carries them exclusively, and another that refuses to carry them for the same reason your shop does. If they haven't had good luck with them why should they carry a product they don't endorse? The shop where I got my first bow was like this. He didn't even carry expensive drop aways because he thought they were a waste of money. If you asked for one he would politely tell you to go to Cabela's, they carry them.
I don't find this to be a flaw at all. At least I know the guy is not selling stuff just to make a buck off from me. If he sells it, it works! Unfortunately he passed away a few years ago.
