I agree with Smokeyghost, it's the getting close. I have yet to take a deer, but I have no interest in what I see on a lot of hunting shows. These guys go to a ranch, set up in a shoothouse 200 yds from an open foodplot and pop a deer at long range. That holds no interest for me. Finding the spot to intercept deer at less than 30 yds, and even if you do, throwing scent control and arrow placement into the mix. That is what fascinates me! Plus it's so much quieter and less crowded. There's nothing like it.

For me it is simple, I love the outdoors and I love to hunt.
Bowhunting has become an obsession with me, I have killed a lot of deer with gun over the years and have killed some of them at distances of less than 10 yards, yet I still have not gotten my first bow kill, it is an obsession I hope to resolve soon, even though I will continue to hunt I view a bow kill as close to the top of hunting skills as you can get until we start talking knifes and spears!!!!

I like being out in the woods and seeing the "sights" (pun intended). I also like being alone there, deciding what to do when, without regard for what anyone else wants. Though I must admit, I can't wait until my son is old enough to hunt with me. We scout together now. Those who don't hunt miss allot, IMO.

I've been bowhunting for about 4 years and this is the first year that i've taken a deer. It's a rush to have deer within 20 yds and them not see or smell you. It's also very much a challenge to make slow movements to position yourself for a shot, there are times when i've had a deer look straight toward me and i've froze until it puts it's head back down, that's a rush. Anyone can shoot a deer with a rifle at 200yds with a good rest and scope, IMO it takes skill, patience and knowledge of the whitetail deer to harvest one with a bow.

I picked up my dads Bear Thunderbird recurve when I was 11, totally hooked ever since. Read Fred Bear's "The Archers Bible" so many times, much of the pictures and text I can still recall from memory after 30 years. After all that time, I still feel like I just came "home" each time I step in the woods.
It's like that NASCAR ad on TV that ask "HOW BAD DO YOU GOT IT?"
When it comes to bowhunting, I like probably most, GOT IT BAD!

I am going to college at Clemson University. All week I study, do homework, and write papers. By the end of the week my mind is burnt out. When I get to bowhunt on the weekends I am able to relax and bring sanity back into my life. I also like the challenge of getting closer to wildlife and flingn' sticks at em'!!

My tag line is my true belief. I hunt in Ohio Gun season lasts a week, Bow season is 4 months <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
When I was in Montana on my first Elk hunt I had 3 Elk within 100 yards including one 10 behind me I couldn't get turned around on, several nice Mule deer bucks also within 100 yards, I took a small Antelope and a doe with the bow and became a diehard that trip.
I own shotgun and rifles but for me the bow is what it is all about!
