Depends on a lot of things; area, terrain, skill, ect. ect. If you feel you can make a shot without the wind whipping your arrow all over the place then go for it. I don't hunt the trees so as I move around I alway keep it hitting my face if at all possible.

My studies from 1994-2001, show that deer movement is greatest between 0-10 mph, but that bucks will move during the rut up to 15 mph. When wind speeds are high, deer stay in or move to wooded areas, low-lying areas, the downwind side of woods or hills; anywhere there is less wind/windchill. My studies also show that, in Minnesota, most deer activity occurs between 15 and 45 degrees or windchill, which ever is lower. (Those parameters will be different in differnt areas.) If it stays below 10 degrees for a number of days, the deer generally have to move to find food, so I found small peaks in movement at 5 degrees, and again at -15 degrees. I have a piece on this subject in NA Whitetail this or last month.

If you have question on der, elk, turkeys, ducks or geese post a new topic here addressed to T.R., or e-mail me.
