I just thank the lord that mine is fairly fast because when I shot my buck this year it sure seemed loud. Maybe it is time to give her a good looking over. Ya know if they hear it comin but it gets there faster than they can react maybe speed isn't all that bad. But myself I woud like quiet, yep better take the old Merlin to the bow shop.

AS someone else posted on a different thread, your arrow would have to be traveling in the vicinity of 700 fps for it to be quicker than a deer CAN react. Distance in this case can make a difference too of course.

Sorry to say, but you're wrong Trembow.Speed of sound is not 700fps, but rather 1,087fps(officially) roughly (depending on air quality/moisture/temp). You are probably thinkingin mph...at which point sound waves travel roughly 770mph.
What does this all mean? A "fast" bow (300+)means very little in terms of a deer's reaction timein response toa sound.
Tell your archery pro shop that next time the build up the speed of a bow they sell. It's great to see their reaction.

I would go with quit cause if the deer is jumpy even a fast bow may not make it there before the deer jumps.Just my thought.Ive seen it happen alot on the hunting videos.

I'll go with the same thing that Deion Sanders told Jimmy Johnson when he asked if he wanted to play Offense -or- Defense.

Funny question.. Just Tuesday night in League I was shooting next to a guy who was shooting an older model bow. It was like a 22 rifle going off. He was shooting 80 lb draw wieght. I asked him about the noise, he said deer don't have a chance to jump. Whether I believe him or not isn't the issue, his thought process was the interesting part.
I also learned to wait till he shot to draw..that thing'll scare the bejesus outta you!
