At our hunting club there has been a big difference due the the over-
abundance of coyotes around, few of us have started to do some very
serious varmit hunting!

I have seen it first hand.Yes they will run the deer off especially if there are fawns with them. The deer will go to another area for the time being but they will come back once they feel the danger is gone.

The only time I've seen any notice given to yotes is when small fawns are in the area (still spotted). Mother tends to move them out of the area quickly. This time of year though, they don't seem threatened by yotes.

I believe it has to do with the number of yotes in the area and the amount of prey they have to sustain them. If there are large numbers they will actually take down yearlings and attempt larger when there appetite forces them. 3 weeks ago a small group killed a button buck that was injured by a car in our woods and since then the deer have evacuated that patch of timber and moved 150 yards to another patch where we have no stands hung because before this inncident they preferred to be in the larger patch where our stands are and where the bedding and forage are better!!! For this reason I would have to say YES,they do effect deer...

were i live when the snow starts to get over 7" the yotes like to fallow the deer. i don't know if it's to harass the yearling's or the older or injured ones. you can see them at dawn/duskmopping around the herds and there tracks going to the bedding areas when scouting. I'm going to hunt them for the first time this year and plan on using a lot of deer calls (fawn distress). also might use doe urine as a cover scent. they say yotes , a couple, can take several fawns in the spring time. I'm hopping to stop that on my hunting grounds this winter.
