Default How do I use a drag line?

How exactly do I use a drag line? What scent do I use, like doe-in-heat, or buck urine or what? I assume you dont drag it in a straight line straight to your stand? [&:]

I usually drag mine starting about 100 or so yards from my stand.
I try to drag it along side where I am walking so the deer that follow it won't be walking on my foot tracks.
When I get near my stand I circle upwind of it about 20 yards and hang the drag on a branch where I will have a clear shot right before the deer is able to touch it with their nose. Often they hang up/stop a few feet before they reach the drag itself on the branch.
I make sure I will have a shot if that happens.

If I am using a decoy, and I do this time of year I lead the trail to the decoy but still hang the drag from a branch.
I also put a canister of the same scent under the decoy.

I use a buck lure like Tinks 69 this time of year
Trails end early in the season.

I have been trying the Hawgs synthetic buck urinethis year and so far it has spooked every deer that has smelled it? None were big bucks but I am wondering about the effectivness of it.

I am going to go back to Tinks for this coming weekend

The drag line is one of the funniest things about deer hunting. I mean truly freaking hilarious to watch a mature whitetail buck go nuts on scent.

Here's what I do: Drag sometimes right from the truck, other times into the woods away from the truck a bit - straight to my stand on a deer trail and hang the drag in a tree in a shooting lane up wind.

What I've seen: Bucks cross the scent line and work their way all the way in like a magnet. It's really cool.

Oh yeah, I always use doe in estrus scent on my drags.
