Default Need Help with Stand Location

Here is my scenario. Small meandering creek (10 yds wide) runs for a mile east to west. The creek is located within a heavily treed area that is 60-70 yds wide, with trees such as palmettos, pine, oaks, maples and misc other trees and shrubs. On either side of tree line (both north and south side) are open fields so deer tend to use the creek/tree line as a travel corridor. Much of travel appears to be near outer edges, particularly north side. A 3 acre food plot is located at the end (far eastern end) so the deer travel a fair distance along the creek toward the food plot.

Where would you set up with a North or NE wind? Originally, I was thinking of setting a stand appx 25 yds inside tree line, closest to North edge. This would put the wind in my face yet keep me close to the north edge where most of the traffic is located, offering a easy bow shot. However, this leaves my back side open and subject to being winded if the deer travel behind me or circle due to suspicion. There are a lot of tracks throughout creek, though most toward the edges.

I am proficient up to 30-35 yds, but not real comfortable beyond that, so staying close helps but I am afraid I am leaving too much open space (40-50yds) behind me where i can be winded.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I would say you are setting up pretty good. There is almost always a chance of deer crossing from behind and winding you.All you can do is play the odds for the most traffic.Hunt high, stay clean and hunt the wind.

Sounds like the wind will blow across you and then through the woods to the creek....If I understand this right, the deer will travle downwind of you.........You may want to move closer from the edge of the field to the creek line so the deer will pass up wind.....If this is not possible I would do like Ohio Bohunter 75 suggest and make sure you are scent free......and hunt and have a good time....
