Do I need to compensate when shooting from treestand
#11
I do a lot of hunting like this myself and I find that if you draw your bow first then bend at the waist remembering not to drop your bow arm your shot placement should be fine. And as far as judging your distances always go by distance not how far down the animal is. Gravity will not affect your shot enough to worry about. I hope this helps you like I said it works for me . Good luck with it Mike

i have heard and read that instead of ranging the deer range the tree right besied him at your eye levelin the stand. best thing to do is take some trail tape and range from the ground and from your tree to get the distances around your stand then no guess work when shooting. best way to know is to shoot from different heights and ranges to see. just my .02

20 yards from the ground is the same as 20 yards (from the base of the tree) in a stand. the way it was explained to me (and what I believe) is that gavity works on the horizontal distance. therefore, no matter how high you are, the effect of gravity (drop of arrow) is the same. however, the tendencies forma stand (I don'tknow why) is to shoot high.
with that said, even if you are 15 ft. in the air, the difference between yardages will be negilgible. if you're up 50 feet, that would be a different story. (just an example)

Back on topic.
This is another reason why practicing EXACTLY how you will hunt helps out tremendously. Best way to see how your bow shoots from 20-30 feet up is to climb a tree and shoot it.
My bow shoots the same from up a tree...........and I like to climb high........at least 25 feet........unless the tree won't let me.

Bowdeerhunter..............Every bow and set-up is differant. There are way to many variables to guess............the answer is very simple...........practice! Practice from the elevations you plan to hunt at. Why take a chance? If you have a monster buck broadside at 10 ? 15? 20? 25? Do you really want to guess? No way! You want 100% confidence that you know where to aim, to PIPE that monster! Confidence is huge in bowhunting!
Best of Luck!
