Default Help with 10x42 Binoculars

Can anyone give me some opinions on 10x42 power binoculars. I have Steiner Predator 8x22 but am looking for something better for scouting and hunting. I love the quality of the Steiner brand but am not sure I want to spend that kind of dough on a pair of binoculars. If they are worth every penny then I may, but looking for everyones opinion and what they have had success with.

I hesitate to ever answer on any of the binocular threads because I don't own a Zeiss, Swarovski or (I forget the name of the other big name expensive binoc. company).

On the other hand, I am the king of inexpensive binoculars as I own quite a few of different magnifications and objective sizes.

If money is a big issue then I would suggest buying an inexpensive pair of 10x42s for now and possibly upgrading later if they don't suit your needs.

I was just over at www.sportsmansguide.com and found several 10x42 models under $100 that would suit your needs. One is even around $50 if I remember correctly.

One word of caution though...I have bought several binocs through that catalog. Some have been semi-decent and some have been relatively good quality. I am buying a pair of 10x42s soon but I haven't decided which ones yet either.

Steiner Predators 10x42. I really like mine, especially in low light.

I just purchased some Pentax 10x50 binoculars. They are very
good and a lot less than Steiner. I like the Nikon Monarch's
also.

I was in that same position last year. Wanted German optics but without the price. I bought a cheap pair and returning them because the edge to edge sharpness was not there. What I ended up getting was a 10x42 and 8x30 set of Russian military binocs. I bought them off E-Bay and really like them. They are very sharp, have diopler adjustments for each eye, and are prefocused and are very durable. The slight downsides are being unable to focus on something very close, having a rangefinder reticule on one side, and the coating is a slight sepia tone. They are clearer than some Nikons that I've looked through. Here is a link to a set from the person I bought them from. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1383660883
I'm not saying they are better than German optics, but are a good buy IMHO. I especially like the 10x42's that I paid $179 for. I see they are cheaper now.
