Just wondering what magnification you prefer and why?
I've decided on the manufacturer and model, but not the magnification. Going to use them for moose and deer hunting.
Looking for advice?
Thanks 340,

it depends on the time of day. The 8x will gather more light for you at low lite time. the 10X will give you a little more rack judging potential. If you are not going to be using them for long range spot and stalk the 8x will be good.

I just bought a pair of 8x42 and I really like them. I have a little trouble holding the 10 power still and feel that 8 power is enough and don't seem to notice any wobble. I chose the 8x42 over the 8x32 because of the extra light it transmits at dawn and dusk (although I would have liked the less weight of the 8x32). The 10x42 would have the same problem of less light transmitted in low light situations. 10x50 would be better in low light, but they are heavier yet.
I am leaving tomorrow morning to use them in Colorado on a blackpowder elk hunt. Good hunting!

txhunter58 - Good luck on your elk hunt!
I'm a real oddball I guess. I like heavy binoculars. Up until this year I've been hunting with a porro prism 7x50 binocular made by Fujinon. I like them for their light gathering and I find the weight makes them very easy to hold still. I bought a roof prism 10x42 that I'll be using this fall. So far I like them, but the 7x50 is going to Wyoming with me just in case.

Lamar, I have the same problem as you, I wear glasses and hate focusing binoculars. I'm leaning towards the 8x42 for that reason and I do notice my movement with the 10x42. The retailer I'm dealing with is going to bring in both pairs to try, I should have them next week.
Txhunter, good luck with your hunt.
Thanks guys,

You may have already seen this, but if not, check out the listing under "great binoc deal" in the product reviews forum. There are 3 listings for low price binocs. Hate to cost a retailer a sale, but these places beat Cabelas price by more than $100 per pair for the pentax 8x42 that I bought.
