Question about fletching my own arrows?
Im new to fletching my own arrows and would like some advice. I have all i need jig, vanes glue. The question i Have is i used the spray method to crest my arrows (look great) and im gonna be using Fletch tite glue for my vanes. How do i need to prepare my vanes(do i need to wipe them with anything before applying the glue and attaching to the arrow?), (how long do i need to wait?) things like that. or what glue do you suggest. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

RE: Question about fletching my own arrows?
I don't wipe my vanes down at all. I glue them right out of the package, I haven't had any problems.
Though I'm just the opposite of Zak. While Goat Tuff worked well, I prefer the adhesion I get with Fletch Tite Platinum.
I use the Arizona E-Z Fletch. I usually let my arrows sit about 25 - 30 seconds before taking them out of the jig. I then let them sit at least 24 hours before shooting them.

Wash, aren't you shooting the Axis arrows? I used the Fletch-Tite glue on Gold Tip's. I would let them sit for 24 hours and then shoot them. The vanes would fall right off. I tried wiping the arrow down with acetone, but I stopped doing that. I bought a dozen A/C/C's and figured that I might as well spend $10 on glue if I am spending $140 on arrows.

Zak, all I've been using the Fletch Tite on have been Gold Tips. I haven't gone and bought the Axis yet.
It could be a difference in the vanes we shoot.
You shoot Bohning, I've been shooting Duravanes.

RE: Question about fletching my own arrows?
I haven't had much luck with glueing to carbon arrows with Fletch-Tite. I haven't used the platimum yet, though. Maybe it works better.
bama, the only problem you may have is the glue may react with the paint and "melt" it off, but it will stick very well regardless. Also, it will only melt off the paint where the fletch is, so you won't see it anyway. I'll tell ya what I did. I used a tube of regular old superglue. It works fantastic.
edit: No,you don't need to wipe down the vanes or the arrow. I would wait at least an hour before fletching, depending on the paint you used, maybe longer.

mobowhuntr, Thanks for the sugestion to use superglue. I took a tube of loktite super glue and tried it on a test arrow that i have. I used it to test the paint and now the glue and vanes and I must say the glue didn't harm the paint and is holding the vanes very well. Can't pull them off at all. Thanks again.
