Some bow companies will still honor the warrenty.. Not to many but Oneida covered my used BE that I bought. Sent it in to have the cables replaced and they did it and sent it back. The whole process actually started when I called them and said I wanted to buy some new ones because the bow wasn't quite making poundage. They asked me to send it instead so they could give it a complete workover instead. Fine with me. All they asked for was 10 bucks to cover the return freight. Have heard of them doing things like this for numbers of people. Manual even says something about it. That being said, I looked at lots of new bows in the past 7 months or so and there would be another or a different bow in the stable if it wasn't for the cost of setting up some of those high end bows new. $1000 after taxes was a real easy target to hit..

Bows aren't any different than any other product out there. There are expensive ones and there are cheaper ones. Get one that fits your budget. I wouldn't go out and test drive a Corvette because they're too expensive for me. But some people buy them.

Muley,
I am in your boat! I got a Reflex Grizzley and all the goodies for under $900... And I mean I got everything! From case to targets! And the bow shoots really good! I am happy with Reflex!

You know, it's not a matter of affordability, frankly, I can afford two Mathews if I choose. My point was that I really didn't see, and feel that much of a diffrence between the expensive bows and the cheaper ones, the shop couldn't even really tell me the difference between a Reflex and Hoyt. Today I purchased the PSE Typhoon, dozen arrows, target, hard case, Primos Bowhunting vest, and all the accessories for $503.00 out the door. I gaurantee this Typhoon will fell an elk every bit as effieciently as some of the higher priced models, I'm happy with it. I really think some of these bow companies are just simply over charging for their products.

I guess it all depends on how you look at it?For me itsthe glass half full or half empty type of scesnerio. Yes new bows are or can be very expensive. This year I have purchased a Switchback, loaded itup with accessories, 4 dozen arrows, new release, and new bow case. I did get good deals on all of it, but its worth aa bit over $1500 if I needed to sell it or replace it.Now I stillneed tobuy broadheads, and a few other little odds and ends.I did sell a 2002 bow (right hand, I'm a lefty) to pay for some of it, but my point is I plan on using this set up for years to come. My last bow a Marting Fury, is now my backup bow and I have hunted with it since 97. I plan on using this Mathews for at least that long or longer. So if you think about it $1500 split up over a period of 8 years or so is not to bad at all. Now if I were to spend that every year or even every other year like some do for a new set up. Then yes I would say that its very expensive. But to buya set up every 5 years or more, its not too expensive, well at least the way I look at it. I also agree with others here saying that a archer can buy a inexpensive bow and do very well shooting and hunting with it. Good luck on your new bow.

$1000 for your bow and gear isn't bad if you plan on keeping this one for 13 years like your last one. It isn't even $100 a year to have an awesome bow. I personally would get the Switchback and put some cheaper decent accessories on it to keep the cost down and upgrade the accessories in a few years as you get the money. You probably wont be happy with any other bow if you have your heart set on a Switchback.

I've done some shooting with those PSE Typhoons. That is one seriously underrated bow! It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but I have to wonder if it really needs them. It is very quiet, reasonably smooth (at least with the L3 cam) and virtually free of shock and vibration. My only real complaint with that bow was the molded plastic grip. Rather uncomfortable.
You should be quite hapy with that bow. You got a lot for your money.

You can get a pretty decent bow for around $400 bare, some in a kit. Parker, Hoyt, PSE, Bowtech and the such have bows in this price range that are very nice. Just not top of the line stuff is all. I looked at a hoyt that was 350 dollars when I got my last bow. I came very close to getting it, but decided I liked the way the bowtech felt a little more. Sometimes I regret spending the extra money.

I cannot argue with that point....especially considering how much bows depreciate each year. Only cars and computers are worse in that regard. However, if you want the lastest tech. designs and improvements along with a good bit of quality then you end up paying for it.
