Default R attling and Grunting

I hunt in the Piney woods in South Jersey.Have tried both with no success. My opinion is that the Doe to Buck ratio is way out of wack in this area, and rattling or grunting will not work.
What do you think?

Your area can't be any worse for buck to doe than the great state of PA and I've used grunting with great success and rattling with marginal success but success none the less.

One thing to keep in mind, you can't be too aggressive with either and I only use rattling as a last resort and I keep it very passive.

The technic I use with grunting is that I usually never make a sound until I have a visual with a buck. I don't sit and blow the grunt all day. That is unnatural. Once I have a visual, I give a soft grunt and watch for indication that the buck has heard me. It may be nothing more than an ear flick, a tail wag but hopefully he'll throw his head up and look. At this point I give a second soft grunt. At times, they've walked straight into me. If not, I grunt just a little louder or throw in a estrous doe bleat (like the can kind sound). If I still have no response, I may get more aggressive or throw in some soft sparing with the rattlin antlers I carry. I look at it this way, if the animal is out of range and is not coming your direction, you have nothing to loose than to attempt some light grunting or rattling....

The calls I use are the River Valley Grunt tube... www.rivervalleygamecalls.com , the Woods Wise 6 N 1 call and the HS True Talker.

I've had success with each.
