Still cant stand that you have to remove the case from the tree to check pics.

I was trying to decide which digital camera to buy. I was thinking about the cuddeback because I had the non typical deer cams and had good luck with them I was just wanting to go digital. The pictures you posted the cuddeback looks like it takes better pictures?? I know the Cuddeback holds 4 batteries and is 1.3 megapixel what is the leaf river you have. All I have heard is everyone loves the leaf river. I alos like the idea of viewing the pics out in the filed with the leaf river that seems like a nice option. What are you thoughts if you were to buy 1 on what you know now. Thanks for your help.

I am trying to find out the same thing about which digital cam to get for my husband for Christmas. I have heard him mention the Cuddeback, and have read about the leaf river. Now I am so confused as to which one to get for him, and I have to order online, so I need to get one pretty quick so as to get it here for Christmas. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

I have used several different cams including a few Digis. The Stealth Digi I was not happy with at all, the main reason was the fact that it ate the 8AA's batteries every 4 to 5 days! I also found MANY of my pics just had deer rumps exiting the photo. I then exchanged these for Cuddeback units. They, IMO, are a much better unit and batts last for about a month. There are just a few things on the Cuddeback that I would like to see changed. I have also tried a Leaf River Digi and this unit, IMO, is THE best one I've tried. In fact, I sent our other units back to Cabela's in exchange for more Leaf Rivers! These units have 2 month battery life, excellent features and options, incredibly easy set-up, and just flat out takes a high quality pic. The only thing I do differently with my LRs is add a MasterLock Pyton to secure and theft proof the units. http://www.jesseshunting.com/site/if...FosCommerce%2F has the LR models with the LCD screen for $319. That's a great buy on a great cam!
Of any of the cams mentioned thus far I would most certainly opt for the Leaf River! You'll need 4 D cells and 3 C cells to power the unit so make sure you buy batts so your hubby can play with his new toy the same day he gets it!

I also appreciate the link. That price is much cheaper than I have found for the Cuddeback. Thanks for the reminder about the batteries! Also, what type pic memory card do I need to get?
Thanks again!

Any brand CF Card will do. The LR Unit will store 50 images on it's internal memory with NO card installed. However, I prefer to have 2 CF cards and simply switch them when I check the unit. I check mine often enough I also don't need a huge memory capacity but some may desire something along the lines of a 256MBs if they were going to be using the Video clips feature. I seen in the holiday sale adds today in the paper that our local Staples store has 256MB CF cards on sale for only $14. They normally go for about $40. Don't forget to buy the MasterLock Python for it! This lock is a MUST HAVE for the Leaf River Units! With the money you save you can buy the lock and a CF Card or two.

IL-Cornfed, where did you get your leaf river, and how much do they run? I have narrowed my choices down to the cuddeback or leaf river, and after reading your post, it sounds like the leaf river is what I would like. I have to know soon, so I can ask santa. Thanks and aim for the boiler room. Bhunter32.

I answered the PM you sent me as well. I bought mine from Cabela's ($349) but in my post above I mentioned that you can save some cash by ordering from Jesses ($319). The LR is the Digi to buy IMHO.

I have found that the flash range on all the units I've played with seem to be comparabe. They all claim 30 feet and it's been my experinece that wil easily handle that distance. IMO, the Cuddeback's flash seems to "wash out" more of the image compared to the LR. I think the LR takes a great natural looking image. Also, the Leaf River takes a better, more natural colored daylight image. In fact, I think the Leaf River takes a better pic than even the 35mm Cams do! On one of the previous pages on this post i have a typical example of LR image quality during the very first minutes of legal shooting time before sunrise. Here are a couple of pics taken during overcast and hazy days and they still look great. I included a pic of myself checking the site because it can be difficult to judge a pic of a critter due to varying tones and colors. The other is a pic of some turkey just as it has begun to snow, so you know the light is seriously effected but yet the LR performs very well.
