I just recently replaced my old reliable Bushnell Yardage
Pro 400 with the Scout. Love the way it fits my hand for
one hand operation. Also, it seems to pick up targets
better than the older model.

My YP 400 had the various modes....never used them
in the 8 years I owned it.

Does anyone know if they fixed the problem of the scout being hard on batteries? I remember they had a problem with it when they first came out. I posted this on another forum and most there seem to like the nikon 400. I looked in my cabela's archery catalog and all I see is the 440's. I like the size of the scout, and I even like the looks of their new trophy. Does the scout run on a 9v battery, and if not what do they use and are they easy to find? Thank you all for your replies, and keep em' coming. Thanks. Bhunter32. PS. Will somebody please hurry up and make my mind up for me..

The lower end Bushnells (Trophy & Sport) use 9V batteries.
Others use a lithium battery.

The 440 doesn't have enough eye relief for me and won't
be as bright as the 6X Bushnell.

I bought a Nikon Monarch, enough eye relief (with eyecup
removed), fog & waterproof. 1/2 yard accuracy & readings.
$330 retail

Better optics than Bushnell. The bottom is flat, top curved,
so you can pull it out by feel. Also has a backlight to illuminate
LCD display. Wonder if Bushnell has patent on using the finger
grooves?

I have the Bushnell Legend and am quite impressed! I will use it mainly for bowhunting, but it will come in handy for those days that I'm carrying my slug gun or muzzleloader!

I have the Nikon 440, and the optics are clear, it is easy to use, and it is very small. So small in fact that you can put it in your pocket and forget that it's there. It is somewhat hard to remain steady, especially at longer distances. One thing to consider though is the non-reflective target ranging. Some models claim to range out to 400 yds, but that is a reflective target - not an animal. I can say that the 440 will range an animal out to the advertised yardage (437 yds). For all intensive purposes - any quality rangefinder would be a good choice. I use mine when setting up a stand site, marking trees with tape at 20,30, and 40 yds. I do not use it while bowhunting unless I am hunting at a new site.

You should have a look at the Lieca range finder, forget the scout by bushnell,it's when you see deer that counts, thats usally at dusk and the scout has terrible clearness to pick up the animal, where as the lieca is almost as good as any binocular you can find. I actually use mine more now as a binocular and leave the binocs at home, Nikon is a better buy than the Scout too. But then it is almost as bad as the scout when it comes down to the crunch, the majic time. When their needed most ,dusk and dawn, thats when the Lieca win's by a ton, clearness is what your after .

Yes they hav fixed the battery drain problem on the Bushnell yardage pro scout. It takes a lithium battery not a 9volt. I had a Nikon and traded it back for the Bushnell. Busnell IMO has way better customer service if you ever need it. I had a pair of their Insta focus binoculars for over 10 years and one side went out of focus. I sent them in and they were replaced with a brand new set no questions asked.

I aslo have a set of Nikon 10x50 binos that freaked out seeing double images and such. I contacted Nikon about this and they told me to send them in. I did and they denied warranty stating abuse. I only had the things for 2 years and they hardly ever came out of my pack.

That's one reason I will continue to buy Bushnell products.

Mike
I was saying I wouldn't use either Bushnell nor Nikon,I use Leica,do me a favor and go to a dealer and compare the 3 side by side.Leica will out clarify the other 2, four fold, happy hunting Mike, let me know how you make out when u campare the 3 okay. Leica has more light gathering than both the Nikon and the bushnell together.[:@][:-]

If I had the cash, I'd probably take a look at the Leica. But since I don't and I usually use my rangefinder for bow shots primarily to get some reference points when I get in the stand, I can't justify the price of them. Now if I hunted out west or where I would be taking a lot of long rifle shots, that would be a different story.

I pretty much stole a Bushnell YP 800 compact on ebay the other day. I paid a little over 100.00 for it. They had bushnell mispelled and they didnt call it a rangefinder they called it a laser guided target ranging system. So it wasnt picking up alot of hits from potental bidders. So I swooped in at the last minute and got it. Works like a dream I have been carring it with me everywhere I go guessing the distance in my head then ranging it to see how close I am. Try ebay for the best deals compared to new ones. When it comes to brand cant help you there but this busnell is great for me.
