PABowhntr,
After reading your review and hitting all the Hoyt dealers I finally found "my" bow. I couldn't find a 2003 model but I shot quite a few 2002 models and picked one: a 2002 Protec XT 3000 (41"
. I didn't take it home because they had to order a rest (Hoyt Quik Tune 3000). The shop has a Hooter Shooter so it will be tuned to perfection by the time I get it!
Sweet shooter! I shot two arrows and was smiling ear to ear. I've always liked longer bows and this one is 60-70# draw so it will be my hunting and everything else bow. The local groundhog population is now officially on notice. And the deer ... hehehe

buckfever7,
I think that the Razortec would make a very decent bow even for a beginner though I do think there are probably better options in Hoyt's lineup for a beginning shooter both in terms of price and overall characteristics.
But, I also think the new cam and a half system is a user friendly and forgiving design...couple that with the TEC riser and I think just about anyone could pick up the Razortec and become proficient with it in very little time.
Fredbearfan,
Yepper, the Protec is synonymous with forgiving. That long axle to axle length...deflexed riser + long XT3000 limbs... and the larger brace height make it a sweet shooter. Arthur P, another member on this forum, has the same, or a similar Protec. I am sure you two could swap some stories.

Excellent review Frank. I love my 2002 Hoyt MT Sport with ZR200 limbs and the versa-cam, as you already know , but, the new Hoyt line up is VERY enticing.
I am thinking of talking to my dealer about getting a trade off. I am thinking of asking him if he would go for a trade, my 2002 MT Sport with all the goodies, (N.A.P. Quicktune 3000 micro arrow rest, Carbon Impact 7.5" Fat Gel Stabilizer, Simms Stealth Series Split Limb Limb Savers, Simms String Leech's, Simms Cable Slide, Cobra Mini-Venom Sight, Kwikee Combo Kwiver, 4 Beman ICS Hunter 400 carbon arrows tipped with N.A.P. 100 grain Thunderheads, wrist sling and fiber-optic peep sight) for a 2003 HavocTec. Sounds like a pretty reasonable deal to me

Frank -
I am anxiously waiting for your thorough review of the Mathews Legacy. Seriously, as always nice job. I look forward to going to my local pro shop and shoot this bad boy.

Buckhuntn01,
I can't afford a Legacy...
Thank you for the compliment.
Buckmagnet,
Thank you as well for the kind words. As for your "swap" idea...hmmm, if you do that then what accessories will you have for your new bow? I think you would be better off selling the bow on Ebay with one or two accessories that you would like to upgrade on anyway. Then use that money as a down payment for the new bow and then just pay it off a little bit at a time... It would probably save you money in the long run.

My apologies for taking so long to respond. The local shop has the Razortec, Cybertec and Havoctec for $599. The Ultratec, Protec and Supertec are $670. The Dynatec is $499...the Magnatec XT2000 is $399, the Magnatec ZR200 is $299 and the MTSport is $269.

2003 Razortec.
Nice review.(talked me into it) Received my new RazorTec late December.
Set it up with the Hoyt/NAP Quicktune 4000 rest and a trophy ridge matrix sight, with the short Hoyt stabilizer and the Hoyt 4 arrow permanent quiver. Looks and shoots great. Of course im a beginner and my judgement is overshadowed by my new found enthusiam for archery and nice equipment. Im shooting Easton ACC 339/440 arrows at 60lbs with a 27 inch draw weight,d-loop,peep, 65percent letoff cams 100 grain broadheads and according to my local pro shop speeds were measured at 268/269 fps during setup and tune. First time out i shot an 8pt white tailed buck at 35 yards and the arrow carried an additional 8 to 10 yds before lodging itself in the ground. Luv this bow. RC/Oklahoma
