Default Carp & Gar Questions

How often do they breed?

Where can you get some to stock in a pond?
The reason why I ask this is because we have a pond that doesn't have much in t and would love to make it a Bowfishing spot.

Are they easy to net???

As often as possible, just like the rest of us.

Where can you get some to stock in a pond?
If you even get one carp near the pond, it will be full of them in no time.
Not sure where to get them though. Almost everyone theat knows much about them wants them dead.

Unless it's your own private pond, it would be illegal to stock any kind of fish in it. It's illegal to posess live bighead or silver carp anywhere. (A federal offense to cross state lines with them alive.)

So, in short. Don't do it.

Like Carpsniper saidall fish are illegal to stock. Common carp are invasive fish. Not only would it be illegal to release them, but if you actually have a body of water that doesn't have them, enjoy it and don't mess it up by putting carp in there.

There are plenty of creeks, rivers and lakes down by you that are filled with carp and gar. Just start asking around. Even flooded fields and ditches are going to have fish in them right now.

Just keep looking, you'll find them.

Wise advice on this page. Wouldn't be smart to stock commons even in a private pond, because they really will take it over, and if it is not very big and deep, they turn the water all muddy. Hard to bowfish in a mud pit. Gars won't get very big in a small pond, because they'll eat up everything else and have nothing to feed on.

In a public water, it would be very illegal to stock either gar or common carp, or any fish. You are not allowed to go around releasing fish into public waters, and fines can be quite substantial.
