Default tc omega groups

I just got my new tc omega, thumbhole stock with fluted stainless barrel last wednesday and went and shot it last weekend. I love the gun, but i wasnt too impressed with the grouping. I was getting about 5-6" groups at 100 yds off a good solid rest. I tried 100 and 150 grains of pyrodex pellets with tc xtp mag and cheap shot sabots (supposed to be same POI), and winchester primer. I think it was the sabots, and was wondering if anyone else has shot these sabots out of the omega. I expect groups at 100 yds within 1.5" out of this gun. Im going to get some shockwaves this weekend and try again. Anyone have any help? Thanks

you have a great gun. my post is still up in the black power forum, read it and you should get some confidence but for now I will give you a quick fix. first of all I own 2 of these guns,I'm not saying that I'm an expert but I will tell you what is working for me and maybe it will help you. My loads are 2 triple seven pellets and the TC 250gr shockwaves. they are tough to load but I would rather have tight then sloppy.I then changed the sabots and now I use the harvester green sabots with the shockwaves. a little eaiser to load but still snug but the accurcey is incredable. the other gun uses the same power charge but with the harvester 240gr. hollow points. I can touch holes with a 3/4 in grouping 1in. high at 100 yards. the only thing that I might change is I'm going to try BM2 power because of the crud ring problem with triple 7. good luck!!!!

I'm getting 1.5" groups with 110 grains of loose 2f, 777 and the 240 grain T/C Mag Sabots in my Omega. I have also tried the 260 grain Dead Centers with 100 grains of 777 and shot about 1" groups(these load incredibly easy). I am not very fond of the pellets so my advice is to try loose powder as you can adjust the load a little better and it is cheaper too.

Have you thoroughly cleaned the packing/shipping lube from the barrel?
If not, then I would suggest a good bore cleaner (Butch's Bore Shine and so on) along with brass brush. Really work the bore with a good solvent to get the packing lube out and get the bore very clean. No lube on sabots. Bone dry.

Next in order to ensure tighter grouping, you may need to swap in between each shot depending on your rifle, the projectile and the powder your are using.

I'd try these two things first before I purchased different bullets or powders.

I cleaned the barrel using both tc no. 13 and other bore cleaner along with a brass brush before i ever shot the gun. After that, i coated the bore with rem oil and then ran 2 dry patches (both sides) to be sure all teh excess oil was out. I did not swab between each shot, but i cleaned the gun after every 3 shots. I am going to use the shockwave 250 grain sabots to hunt anyway, but i just thought my groups should be a little better than that with the xtps. I have not heard yet of anyone having problems grouping with the shockwaves with 100 grains of powder, so i will try that this weekend and see what happens. Also, does anyone think the shockwave 250 will be good for caribou hunting in quebec?

T/C #13 is not going to remove the packing lube anytime soon.
Butch's Bore Shine, Beechwood Bore Scrubber or Hoppe's #9 should do the trick.

To remove maintenance oil. I would suggest using alcohol and then dry patches to ensure that the oil is completely removed.

The 250 should do the job and I've had great success shooting them. I have not hunted with them, so I cannot say how the performance in hunting is.
I've killed several deer with the 300gr SST version though and they are excellent in terms of terminal performance. One stop shots for me.

IMHO

I got some shockwaves, 200 grain, today (they were out of 250s) and went and shot 3 shots with them. I think my powder has been wet or something. I shot at 50 yards, with all 3 shots in a perfect vertical line. There was about 2" between the top and bottom shot, so i just figured the powder was maybe wet and not burning completely consistent? I think these will be great, I'll get some new powder and try it once more. Thanks for all your help!
