Cleanshot/Clearshot?

Both of these are black powder substitutes. You can supposedly use the same amount of these powders as black, and get the same results, but they are much cleaner burning, and make cleaning your gun much easier than if you used black powder. Clear Shot is noncorrosive, so you don't have to clean your gun as soon after firing as with black powder or Pyrodex, which is another BP substitute. In my guns, I found that Clear Shot does not give as high velocities as the same charge of BP or Pyrodex, so I had to use much heavier powder charges to get back to the speeds I was getting from Pyrodex. It was recently announced that there was an accident at the Clear Shot factory, and it is not known if or when they will be back in production. So, if you see some for sale and want to try it, buy it now!! There is also a new BP substitue called Triple Se7en, made by Hodgdon, the same people who make Pyrodex. Triple Se7en is supposed to be the most powerful BP substitute on the market, so it should not give the low-velocity problems of Clear Shot. Clean Shot is said to be highly suseptible to moisture damage, which is not a problem with Clear Shot. It remains to be seen if this problem applies to Triple Se7en, because any powder's usefulness for hunting can be seriously compromised by sensitivity to moisture (Pyrodex does not seem to be too bad in this respect.)

eldeguello is right on the mark with his comments.
I've used CleanShot for over a year and am quite happy with it. I recently picked up some ClearShot and was not impressed. It appears to be about 15% down in power when compared to CleanShot and it is really no cleaner than Pyrodex - while CleanShot is within 5% of Pryodex's power and is really clean.
I haven't had any moisture problems with CleanShot as of yet. I've haven't hunted with it in the rain either, but in our humid Florida climate I have to figure it has had its chances to go bad and hasn't so far.
However, I can't wait to get my hands on some Triple 7. There is a lot of potential in their marketing materials - but the targets & dead critters will have to be the final judge.

Trust God..........but keep your powder dry!
