RED DOT SCOPES
#1

I have for a long time asked questions about the RED DOT scopes. I finally decided I wanted one, so I ordered the Bushnell Trophy with the four interchangable reticules and eleven brightness settings.
I mounted it on a .50 caliber Knight Wolverine II LK-93 with a 22" barrel. Today I was sighting in the scope. I was shooting 80 grains of Goex FFFg and a T/C 240 grain Mag Express XTP. I swabbed every third shot because they loaded easy, and I wanted to see how different they acted on a fowled barrel.
I put my portable bench rest at the 50 yard line and the first shot was high (as I expected and wanted). I then adjusted the scope and brought the group down a little shooting a respectable 10 shot group.
I then moved to the 25 yard line and drew a small red square. I fired six shots at it, then over adjusted the scope at first. A slight correction and it placed two in the upper left corner of the square. I figured that would be good enough for getting the load I intend to use hunting on paper and close to target. I will sight in some 250 grain Barnes Expanders next week. I can then try this out at 100 yards and see what it will do.
If anyone else shoots this brand of RED DOT, do you leave the lens filter on all the time or only when it is bright sun?
thanks..

I know this is not responsive to your question but I was curious as to what you used for your swab between shots (both the type of patch and solution)? That is a pretty good looking pattern to me.

I get old white 100% cotton T-shirts anywhere I can (garage sales and you name it.. old white cotton socks also work also) and cut them up into squares. I then mix a 50/50 solution of isopropyl alcohol and car windshield washer fluid. I soak a patch ring it out and work it in short strokes through the barrel from muzzle to breech. Turn it over and do the other side of the patch. If I want to reload right away, I will run a dry one through there and then that is the next one that I will wet the next time I swab....

I wanted to shoot the Knight Wolverine II LK-93 with the Bushnell RED DOT some more and try the 250 grain Barnes Expanders. Since my tree stand is about 35 yards from a great trail crossing I sighted in there. I used three Thompson Center Mag Express 240 grain XTP's with 80 grains of Goex FFFg and was very happy with the 35 yard group. I then switched over to the Barnes Expanders. Needless to say after the third shot at that distance I was very pleased with the results of that group.
I then cleaned the barrel with some Rusty Duck patches and went back to 75 yards with the portable bench rest. I fired the first four and was very happy with the results at 75 yards. I then changed to the cross hair reticle for the fifth shot and was disappointed when it threw the shot a little. I am sure this is because the cross hair is not as fine as the 3 M.O.A. dot I was using.
I believe this rifle is ready for deer season. The 250 grain Barnes Expanders on top of 80 grains of Goex FFFg will be more then enough for any whitetail that happens by.... I am impressed to say the least with this RED DOT.

So far, the RED DOT on my Knight Wolverine II LK-93 has stood up to everything I have put at it. I have a load of 80 grains of Goex FFFg and a Barnes Expander 250 grain bullet.
I did notice the other day when trying the rifle at ranges of 100 yards and longer, that due to it being a very bright day out, I was seeing a double image. I am waiting for a reply from Bushnell as to why this appeared and what can be done. It was like looking at a 8 but solid red. I was not sure if the lower part of the dot should be used or the top part. Well it turned out the top part was the one. I then changed it over to a + and that was better but the point of aim is different the the 3 MOA dot. I do not know why this is happening....
Other then that I am real pleased with the RED DOT and I am sure that in the woods and marsh where the tree cover is everywhere VS my open range, the second part of the shadow will not be there....
At the ranges your talking for your son, he could shoot the eyes out of the bulls eye

The way it was explained to me is a 3 M.O.A. dot covers a 3 inch circle at 100 yards. Using that as your sight, it should put all your shots in that 3 inch circle. Hence a 5 M.O.A. would do the same but in a 5 inch circle....
