Default RED DOT SCOPES

I have for a long time asked questions about the RED DOT scopes. I finally decided I wanted one, so I ordered the Bushnell Trophy with the four interchangable reticules and eleven brightness settings.

I mounted it on a .50 caliber Knight Wolverine II LK-93 with a 22" barrel. Today I was sighting in the scope. I was shooting 80 grains of Goex FFFg and a T/C 240 grain Mag Express XTP. I swabbed every third shot because they loaded easy, and I wanted to see how different they acted on a fowled barrel.

I put my portable bench rest at the 50 yard line and the first shot was high (as I expected and wanted). I then adjusted the scope and brought the group down a little shooting a respectable 10 shot group.

I then moved to the 25 yard line and drew a small red square. I fired six shots at it, then over adjusted the scope at first. A slight correction and it placed two in the upper left corner of the square. I figured that would be good enough for getting the load I intend to use hunting on paper and close to target. I will sight in some 250 grain Barnes Expanders next week. I can then try this out at 100 yards and see what it will do.

If anyone else shoots this brand of RED DOT, do you leave the lens filter on all the time or only when it is bright sun?

thanks..
