Cupcake

Want some good advice?

Grab the checkbook or credit card & head out to the gun store. Once there, request a Thompson Center Omega inline ($450) with laminated stock and a stainless steel barrel. If you find out beforehand that he prefers a more traditional rifle (side-hammer)... then request to see either the Thompson Center Hawkens ($500) or Lymans Great Plains rifle ($375). These prices are estimated guesses... could be lower... should not be higher.

When the salesman returns from the backroom with the new rifle box you requested, he will open it. Look it over for scratches & noticeable imperfections in the finish of the barrel & stock. If everything' s OK, then buy it.

When your husband unwraps that box & opens it, pay close attention to his face. His mouth will drop then widen with a huge grin. His eyes will gleem. This may continue on & off for days & weeks. That is a sign you chose the right rifle. Any (1) of the (3) I chose above will cause gleems & grins on a recipient' s face... guaranteed!!!!

Triple 7 is right on!
I have done some homework and as mentioned above, there are many nice ML' s.

I have leaned many directions but it seems that the Omega is the choice for me.
There is a link on this thread that has some nice articles.

I think $450 is steep for many people but it is one of things that you get what you pay for. I initially wasnt going to spend that kind of money for a muzzleloader but I have heard so many good things about this rifle.

Here is a picture.

Cupcake ,
I have a Traditions Buck Hunter that my wife bought me for xmas a few years ago , it was $150 and drops anything in it' s path . It is available in .50 and .54 calibers , black or camo stock , black or nickel barrel . It' s simple , reliable , and easy to take down with one tool(supplied) . Your hubby can always upgrade to a more expensive ML later , but they all shoot pretty much the same .
