When you say We've run thors through muleys. Are you saying you did or other guys have, and your trying to use their accomplishments as your own?

Your right you have more experience with thors and barns bullets, but that is for target shooting right? I know you have killed one baby elk with a PRB am I right? I have shot a lot of PRB's. I have shot a lot of small game with them. I would never use them on a big game animal. That is just my opinion, and I got that opinion following a wounded cow elk to the end of the earth when a guy shot her and said he couldn't follow her up to finish the kill.

I really hate to agree with you to much.... but Noslers were/are the best bullets made IMO (gotta say that part). They have been proven over and over again to expand through a wider range of velocities that any other bullet.

It is just to bad that Nosler has quit making the Partitions needed for a ML... but I believe they are slowly moving to the E Bullet as the lead ban gains momentum in the more populated states where the environmentalists are the strongest.

Yet Muley and you are not going to like this - today if Noslers were still available I would use the Lehigh - I believe them to be that good.

I got that opinion following a wounded cow elk to the end of the earth
Which end was that Ron? The one where you fall off, or the one where you come to a big wall?

I believe a PRB fails when hunters try and shoot them too far.

With a patched ball, a mans got to know his limits and i know mine.

Family, I have to teach them how to load and shoot the guns every year. My brother in law has dropped 2 of them already on film or was it 3?

One with the accura and 2 with his wolf, so yes 3 so far. 3 more hunts in new mexico this year for us again.

I wonder how many shots it would take to down an elk with a .458 300gr Barnes Socom at 1900-2000fps? I never heard of an elk being shot with one so I guess it probably would not even penetrate the hide. Ron has video footage of it's destruction somewhere.

A member here killed a big ol bull with a 250gr SST last year. I guess it's second hand knowledge though even though he posted pics of it on 3 other forums. I doubt he lied.

I just cannot believe nobody recommended the 300gr Aerolite? LOL

Not trying to be counter productive but the answer to that question can be clouded... There are so many circumstances that can play into the equation, especially with elk - it is really not that simple of an answer. Many different things may play into the situation, just to mention a few that I might consider, such as mud (dried or wet), size, sex, age, rut, angle and difficulty of the shot, even location of the animal or the state of alarm the animal might be in, not to mention range....

but, if you are talking about the condiditons being close to right - then sure no sweat if you do your part.

Those SOCOMS do perform great on deer if you keep the fps at impact high enough. Im not sure how they would perform on elk but they would be on my list to find out.
