Default Elk bullet suggestions?

I am looking for suggestions on the best bullet for elk. I will be hunting in New Mexico. I have a .50 cal Knight DISC Extreme with a 3x9 Leupold. I plan to use 150 grains Triple 7 pellets and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what would be the best bullet. Any other suggestions that may be helpful would also be appreciated. Thanks

My Knight Disc loves the original Barnes MZ in 300 gr...

Don't decide what powder charge your gun prefers until you actually try it with the bullets you will use...

Mine preferred 100gr charges...

This one works very well for me Idaho,,, 20 yards to 200 yards

Of course there are a lot of other that will work also, but this one has proven itself to me.

I agree with Sabotloader, the bloodline as first choice and the Barnes 290 gr tmz as second choice. My knight doesn't much like 150 gr it is dead accurate with 130 and if you insist on pellets you can buy 30 gr pellets . Try 2 - 50 gr pellets and a 30 gr pellet. Just a suggestion

I've never even killed an elk but if those bullets won't kill one there's no sense in me even trying.

It's a proven bullet Ron. You don't any experience to be confident in recommending it.

This 300 grain Nosler Partition is the bullet i would use. At about $0.50 a bullet, one could purchase 100 or more and use them for practice. 300g XTP could be used for practice too.

Please allow me to mention that i have never killed an elk with this bullet, nor have i ever killed an elk with a muzzle loader. However i have killed a lot of elk with a Nosler Partition. There was 1 elk with a 125g 6.5mm Nosler Partition. There was maybe 4 elk killed by a 100g 6mm Nosler Partition. My favorite elk killer was the 225g .358 Nosler Partition, a pile of elk fell to that bullet shot from my rifle. That bigger Partition really really puts the hurt on elk. Several elk that fell to various 7mm bullet, ended in our freezer. It seems to me, a 45 caliber 300g Partition moving at 1900 fps, would be deadly.

One of the Barnes bullet would probably be a good choice too.

The 300g 45 caliber Deep Curl should work OK, as should the 300g XTP magnum.

A large conical should really smuck elk. You know, a 500g chunk of lead flying at 1600 fps. Pity the poor elk what gets hit by one of these.
