Default Eat them here or take them back with us

I was out hunting this afternoon. while I was sitting on a log. I watch 2 treerats playing. looked back down to check around me. looked back up. one of them was about 10ft from me in a tree with its a$$ at me and shacking it's tail at me. I start thinking wish I brought my 22 with me. then I raised my USAK at it and wonder what an 245gr powerbelt and 75grs of triple 7 would do to it.

lowered the gun back down. left after another 20mins of setting.

next time I hunt this this place I am going to take my 22 as well at one of my Muzzys.

Corey the way you shoot - probably just make his ears ring at that distance...
Actually I don't think there would be too much damage it you hit dead center (no pun intended). But he would probably stink when you skinned him. If you would have shot him you would probably be best off just cutting off the hind legs and throwing them in you pocket.

When I was a young man I shot everything in my path when hunting. While I brought a rabbit, grouseor a squirrel home I started to wonder.. how many deer did you scare off that were headed your way. If you're out there to hunt deer, then hunt deer. If you're out there to squirrel hunt then do that. Or if all you like is to shoot off your rifle, then stay at the range and save the license fee.

One thing I started doing was taking a sling shot (called a wrist rocket) and some lead ball I would cast up. If small game presented itself, and it was legal, I would smack it. Wisconsin later passed a law that shut off a lot of the seasons during parts of the deer season. Another use of the wrist rocket was, as you moved through the woods and came to a thicket (you did not want to wade through), you could send a few ball into that thicket. I kicked a lot of deer out of their beds that way. Your not really shooting at the deer mind you. All you are doing is making them nervous.

Dave - I knew a guy who did that too. He used to get a the top of a laurel covered raving and shoot rock down into it with his slingshot. He shot several buck this way as the tried to sneak out of there.

I thought about the sound when I raised the gun. I thinking of the sound. then I thought about an 22cal airgun, but most of those are pricey and the sound superstition system are around $300. [&:]

may just go squirrel hunting one day. then I won't see them and see a deer

I use the squires and birds as a movement guage
If they don't know I'm there I'mnot moving to muchand If I can catch their movement I should be able to see the deer move

saxman.. I do the same thing but I will tell you what, when a squirrel decided to sit on my knee, I draw the line. Or I have had chickadees land on the rifle barrel and perch there. You know you're not being noticed.

Bronko about twenty years back a friend and I were walking the hill sides where we could looking into a funnel thicket and I was popping rock, marbles, roundball, and all of a sudden a buck came busting out the other side of that thing and about ran my friend over. I could not shoot because of where he was (plus I was kind of laughing over him falling backwards and sliding down the hill) and he never got a shot off. Yes that does work...

Speaking of that Corey. My friend called about 2 hours ago. He was out this morning and had turkey all around him just out of bow range. He came home about 10:00 and grabbed his 17 HMR to try and get a turkey. And...... you guessed it - a 7 pointer walked right up to within 15 yards of him and just walked on by. He is up there now sitting in a climbing stand. (Bet he'll see more turkeys this evening.....!!!!!. He is right on top of the mountain near our houses. I have the 2 way radio on in case he calls me that he connected.
