When I was a young man I shot everything in my path when hunting. While I brought a rabbit, grouseor a squirrel home I started to wonder.. how many deer did you scare off that were headed your way. If you're out there to hunt deer, then hunt deer. If you're out there to squirrel hunt then do that. Or if all you like is to shoot off your rifle, then stay at the range and save the license fee.

One thing I started doing was taking a sling shot (called a wrist rocket) and some lead ball I would cast up. If small game presented itself, and it was legal, I would smack it. Wisconsin later passed a law that shut off a lot of the seasons during parts of the deer season. Another use of the wrist rocket was, as you moved through the woods and came to a thicket (you did not want to wade through), you could send a few ball into that thicket. I kicked a lot of deer out of their beds that way. Your not really shooting at the deer mind you. All you are doing is making them nervous.
