Buffalo Ball et...For elk?

Buffalo Ball et...For elk?
I went shooting yesterday, and it seemed that this bullet shoots the best in my rifle. I shoot a CVA Bobcat in .50. I was shooting the Buffalo Ball et with 90 grains of pyrodex. Will this produce enough power to cleanly take a cow elk, and at about what range should I allow for a maximum range? Does anybody have any idea of ABOUT how much energy this load would devolop? Any help would be great, along with any opinions of what else to try. Thanks

I don't doubt that load would take an elk at 100 yards if you had a perfect shot. Personally, I wouldn't take a shot over 75 yards with a load that light, but I am a believer in the "bigger is better" theory for elk. I use 430 gr. Maxi - Balls over 110gr. ffg Goex in the .54's I use for elk hunting. I'll use the lighter stuff for deer hunting sometimes, depending on the area I'm hunting.

Coondog, the weight is 245 grains, but I did shoot a 385 gr. bullet out of it also, so that info helps a little, I'll just see if I can get those bullets to be able to hit the broad side of a barn!
