The only thing I might add or subtract from what is posted here, is @ close range, shooting a thin skinned animal such as a deer with theShockwave/SST, ittends to pass thru the animal without significant expansion, usually due to the fact that is loaded so hot to achieve velocity for those long range shots. Long range shots do achieve expansion as the velocity has slowed significantly.
Conversersly if you hit a major bone on the way in at close range you will achieve expansion.
Even @ close range, either way the animal is dead, it just takes them longer to realize it and you may be doing some tracking, if you get a good blood trail.

After trying some different bullets I found for my scoped Omega 90 grs of 777 and
CLAYBUSTERS / HARVESTER 50 CAL SABOTS W/ .451 DIA 330 GR HARD CAST BULLET
http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=00072H35033
or
http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000308215
THOMPSON CENTER ACCESSORIES .50CAL SUPER GLIDE SABOTS W/ 300GR SHOCK WAVE SPIRE PT BULLETS
shot about the same at 50 and 100 yrds from sand bag rest.
50 yrds 3/4 in. and 100 about 2 in. 3 shot grps.
I shot a 145 lb.hog with the Super Glidebut have not used the claybuster on any game, yet. Maybe this fall. Yes the claybuster was just abit lower on the paper than the super glide. Super Glide
loads easy with my Omega.

I believe these would be excellent elk and bear bullets, but a bit much for deer--unless your doing direct shoulder hits to put them down quickly. It is interesting that Craig Bodington uses an expanding bullet on Cape Buffalo for the first shot, but a hard cast bullet (solid) for the 2nd shot. He wants the expansion for killing power quickly, but then the solid for penetration if the bullalo charges.

CG, thanks for the input. The Super Glide went in just behind one shoulder on and angle out the other shoulder so l lost some meat.
I checked the exit for copper, didn't see any but did have splintered rib bones and shoulder bone. I decided to use the Super Glide 300 gr from what I read on this forum about hogs not bleeding for tracking. Y'all were right. It plugged up with fat and chest was holding blood till hung and the
pressure opened the plug. In the fall I'm gonna try the hard cast and see
how it does.

Thanks for the replies folks. I look forward to shooting these rounds more with different charges and weights as well.
I also see what some are saying about not needing such a deep penetrating bullet for most fairly close whitetail ranges, inside of 125 yards. What are eveyones experiences using the standard Shockwave compared to the Bonded version? Would it be in my best interest in shooting the more rapidly expanding standard version??? Thanks again for any and all feedback

I know the Noslers do this for my Omega and Knight. I >>believe<< the Barnes TMZ 300 or the Knight Ultimate Slam 290 do this, but I have not shot them yet at targets or deer, I have them to test in my
Savage 10ML. Oh the Knight Ultimate Slam 290g have the spire tip, so they have a pretty high BC.
The Knights were $17 for 25 bullets at Cabelas, so cheaper than most designer bullets.
