Shockwave 200gr VS Shockwave 250gr
I have been shooting the 200gr shockwaves out of my 50 cal disc rifle, and have had great accuracy. My question is if I bump up to the 250 gr will I havemuch of a change in performance.I push the 200 gr bulletwith 100gr of triple 7 powder. Reason I am asking is the 200gr are not as easy to find as the 250 gr are.I am wondering if the avalability is due to most people use a heavier bullet. This last year I shot a nice doe with the 200 gr and she dropped like a rock.
Maybe someone here can tell meif they have expereced a difference between these two bullets.
pro's and con's, please help. Thanks , Steve

I do not shoot the SW or SST's, I still stuck on Nosler's, but there will be a performance difference in the move from 200 to 250. The velocity will drop a bit, but even with the velocity drop your energy will remain in the same neighborhood because of the extra weight. With the loss of velocity there will be a slightly greater drop (trajectory will change)at a given range, but the effects of Xwinds will be less with the 250...
Accuracy should not be affected to much they are both accurate bullets, but only shooting them from your gun will tell you.

I've never tried the 200 gr. I have used the 250 gr. with 100 gr. pyrodex and they grouped real well. I can't say that the 250's will fly the same as the 200's in your gun. You'll just have to try some. I bumped up to the 300 gr. this year with 130 gr. powder. They shoot great. Good Luck.

I agree with sabotloaders post. You will lose some speed but you may pick up some energy. I no longer shoot the SST ot the SW either. They always shot good groups but IMHO the bullet never did perform on game as good as the Barnes or the Nosler.

It's possible that a scope or open sight adjustment will get you back on track with the heavier bullet. The biggest obstacle holding you back isn;'t the added bullet weight - but the diffferences in plastic sabots/bullet diameter.
You may be better-off to switch to another 40/50 bullet. My 40/50 195 gr. Barnes Expanders would shoot the same as my T/C 200 gr. Shockwaves. So when all else fails, try another 40/50 bullet around 200 grains.... or switch to loose powder - for easier load-tweaking than with pellets.

The 200gr XTP is a good economical choice, but I am suprised your are having trouble finding the 200gr SW.
The sabot you need is available directly from MMP
http://www.mmpsabots.com/
You might check your local walmart,I caught the sale on 200gr SW last week and bought the last 8 boxs for $5 apiece.
You will find a quite a bit of difference in LONG range trajectory the 200gr is I believe the very best long range and all around bullet and normally the easiest to get good accuracy with, Triple Se7ensaid a lot that need saying on this the only thing thats not good about those bullets is the price , unnecessary for deer sized game but if you are going after elk sixed game I like them dispite the unbelieveable price. Read what he sayed about the sabots its the only draw back the these bullets only it dont sound like you have that problem. Lee
